Job Description

We're looking for an experienced, part-time Quality Manager to join us on a 6–12 month engagement (~20 hours/week), reporting to the VP of Operations. This is an advisory and hands-on role for a seasoned quality professional who wants meaningful, flexible work rather than a full-time leadership position.

Our QMS is well-established, so this role is not about building a system from scratch — it's about applying deep experience to keep it sharp: reviewing for gaps, mentoring our internal quality team, and guiding continuous improvement. A key deliverable is standing up a structured safety program and handing it off cleanly to an internal owner before the engagement ends, with documentation and training that let it run independently afterward.

You'll bring deep technical and quality management expertise built over a long career, and be comfortable operating independently with limited hours on-site. This suits someone who wants to stay engaged in meaningful work — mentoring, advising, and solving hard problems — without the demands of a full-time operating role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Serve as senior subject matter expert on the QMS, internal processes, and validation methodology, identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput

• Maintain and continuously improve the existing global QMS, ensuring ongoing ISO 9001 compliance and audit-readiness

• Establish a structured safety program (policies, procedures, training framework) and hand it off to an internal owner by the end of the engagement, with full documentation and knowledge transfer

• Mentor and develop internal quality (and, where relevant, safety) staff to build lasting in-house capability

• Lead or support internal and external quality audits and manage relationships with external quality partners (customers and third parties)

• Guide non-conformance management (Quality and Safety) and root-cause-driven closure of CA/PAs

• Analyze quality and safety data and advise leadership on trends and recommended actions

• Ensure production and development activities conform to current statutory and regulatory requirements

Required Competencies

• Intimate knowledge of ISO 9001 and the certification/audit process

• Deep, demonstrated experience applying quality management principles in an industrial OEM environment

• Proven ability to mentor and transfer knowledge to less experienced staff

• Self-directed and comfortable operating independently within a part-time schedule

• Passion for continuous improvement and internal/external customer satisfaction

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Position Requirements

• BS degree (preferably in a STEM field)

• 15+ years of progressive experience in Quality leadership roles

• Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred, though this role is primarily advisory rather than people management

• Experience building, launching, or transitioning a safety or quality program to a successor or internal owner

Desired Competencies

• Strong understanding of OSHA guidelines and reporting

• Lean, Six Sigma, or RCA certification

• Experience with operations and manufacturing processes
• Working knowledge of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU) and its conformity assessment requirements

• Familiarity with ATEX and IECEx certification requirements for equipment used in hazardous (explosive) atmospheres

• Understanding of API Q1/API Q2 quality management requirements for the oil and gas industry

• Familiarity with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 material requirements for sour service environments

• Knowledge of hazardous area classification (Class/Division and Zone systems) and its impact on product design and testing

• Exposure to functional safety standards (IEC 61508/61511) as applied to instrumentation and monitoring equipment

Engagement Terms

• Approximately 20 hours/week, with flexibility on daily schedule by mutual agreement

• 6–12 month term, with the possibility of extension based on business need and fit

• On-site at our Santa Fe Springs, CA facility — this is not a remote or hybrid role

• Engaged as a part-time employee or independent contractor, to be finalized based on scope of work and applicable classification requirements

Compensation

• Hourly rate, commensurate with experience
