The Quality Inspector for Voyager Energetics is responsible for:

  • Visual inspection – This role is primarily a visual inspection position: examining materials, components, or finished products by sight against specifications, drawings, and workmanship standards to verify conformance. Basic measurement tools (such as calipers or gauges) may be used only on an occasional, as-needed basis.
  • Documentation and record-keeping – Recording inspection results and non-conformance reports accurately, maintaining logs that support traceability and regulatory or customer requirements.
  • Identifying and reporting defects – Flagging products or processes that fail to meet quality standards, tagging or segregating defective items, and communicating issues to supervisors or production teams so corrective action can be taken.
  • Supporting quality control processes – Following standard operating procedures (SOPs), participating in audits, and helping implement corrective/preventive actions to reduce recurring defects.

The position reports to the Quality Manager and is part of the Quality team based in Penrose, CO. This role is onsite in Penrose, CO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work safely by accurately and strictly following established standard operating procedures and following safety rules.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final visual inspections of materials, components, and finished products against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Visually identify surface defects, workmanship issues, and inconsistencies; use of precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) is occasional and secondary to visual inspection.
  • Accurately record inspection results and non-conformance reports, and maintain logs to support traceability and audit readiness.
  • Identify, tag, and segregate non-conforming material, and communicate issues promptly to supervisors and production teams.
  • Assist with internal audits and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions under the direction of the Quality Manager.
  • Support manual visual inspection tasks related to energetic material processing, including verification checks during production, while following all established procedures.
  • Special projects as assigned by management.
  • Attend all required meetings and provide clear, professional verbal and email communications.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • This job requires working around explosives. Teamwork is especially important here in all aspects of the job as we strive for safety.
  • Support the engineering and operations team by providing timely, accurate inspection data on solid rocket motor and energetic manufacturing systems.
  • Follow documented inspection procedures and flag any deviations for engineering or Quality Manager review.

Minimum Qualification:

Education

  • High School or equivalent

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in quality inspection within manufacturing, engineering, or construction environments
  • Exposure to or experience within an ISO 9001-certified organization is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

  • Visual inspection proficiency – Strong visual acuity and the ability to consistently identify small surface defects, workmanship issues, and inconsistencies by sight; ability to read blueprints/engineering drawings to verify parts meet specifications. Use of precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) is a minor, occasional part of the role.
  • Familiarity with quality standards – General understanding of quality systems such as ISO 9001 or industry-specific standards, and the ability to follow documented inspection procedures.
  • Attention to detail with strong documentation habits – The ability to consistently notice small deviations or defects, combined with clear, accurate record-keeping for traceability and audits.

Physical / Vision Requirement

  • Visual acuity test – Because this role is primarily visual inspection, candidates must pass an internal visual acuity test as a condition of employment. Employees may also be required to re-verify visual acuity without advance notice at any point during employment.

The good faith base salary range for this role is $20–$27 per hour at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
