Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Laboratory & Instrumentation Technician ocated in our Development and Manufacturing Center in Pampa, Texas. In this role, you will conduct a wide variety of tests, including non-routine or special testing to support both our Research and Development team and commercial manufacturing plant.  You will also partner with less experienced technicians for training purposes.  This position is responsible for troubleshooting and calibrating lab instrumentation. This position provides technical leadership, quality oversight, and operational support while ensuring compliance with ASTM standards, customer requirements, and internal quality systems.

How You’ll Make an Impact: 

Using your knowledge, skills and abilities, you will serve as a key liaison between Lab Superintendent, Operations, Quality, Technical Services, and R&D, continuous improvement, equipment reliability, QC/QA testing, audit readiness, and a culture of safety and teamwork.

Key responsibilities include:

Laboratory Operations and Quality Control

• Coordinate and prioritize daily laboratory testing activities.
• Perform and oversee testing in accordance with approved procedures and ASTM standards.
• Review, validate, and communicate analytical results.
• Escalate out-of-specification results and support corrective actions.
• Maintain compliance with quality requirements and performance metrics.

Technical Leadership and Personnel Development

• Support the Laboratory superintendent.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and support for laboratory personnel.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and qualification activities.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
• Serve as technical resource for Operations, Quality, and R&D teams.
• Support workload balancing and resource allocation.

Authority and Decision-Making

• Prioritize testing activities based on business needs.
• Recommend process and procedural improvements.
• Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Exercise independent judgment in resolving routine laboratory issues.

Equipment Reliability

• Ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated, and compliant.
• Coordinate troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Support preventive maintenance programs and equipment uptime.

Data Management, Inventory, and Budget Stewardship

• Maintain laboratory records and LIMS data integrity.
• Manage inventories of chemicals, standards, and consumables..
• Support procurement and cost-control initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
• Support COA generation with shipping department.
• Maintain an accurate status in JDE inventory to match product quality.

Performance Metrics and Quality Ownership

• Support KPI attainment for LCI, turnaround time, quality, safety, and equipment reliability.
• Support investigations related to quality and customer concerns.

Audit Readiness and Compliance

• Maintain the laboratory in a continuous state of audit readiness.
• Ensure records, calibration files, and training documentation are complete and accessible.
• Support customer, corporate, regulatory, and third-party audits.
• Support closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
• Participate in internal audits and compliance assessments.
• Maintain controlled documents, procedures, and work instructions.
• Support ISO and RC as well as customer-specific requirements.
• Support sample shipments to customers and external testing.

Safety and Continuous Improvement

• Promote a strong safety culture and excellent housekeeping.
• Participate in hazard reviews, incident investigations, and MOC activities.
• Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Bring to Cabot:

·       Secondary education (High School); technical/vocational training. (2-year college/technical degree in math/science preferred)

·       1-3 years laboratory experience preferred.

·       Must have valid driver’s license

·       General lab testing knowledge and mathematical skills to solve problems encountered in job. (Algebra, problem solving, etc.)

·       Competent computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office and Outlook applications including formatting, data entry, and written communication

·       Ability to work 8 hour day shift and willingness to work overtime and/or possible call outs when needed

·       Ability to understand how quality affects the customer’s needs

·       Proficient communication skills: writing and verbal and must follow instructions and communicate clearly

·       Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers

·       Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments

·       Ability to lift items and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.

·       Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity to operate and perform basic service to laboratory equipment.

·       Ability to focus for long periods of time
