This position directs and coordinates resources throughout the full project lifecycle, from conceptual planning through construction closeout, ensuring projects achieve defined objectives related to scope, cost, schedule, and quality while delivering exceptional client service.

The Project Manager works closely with project leadership on complex initiatives while independently managing assigned projects. The role partners with Construction Managers to oversee on-site execution and collaborates with the Project Coordinator to ensure accurate financial tracking, documentation, and reporting. The position also coordinates with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment, effective communication, and timely project delivery.

Success in this role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining organization, accountability, and attention to detail. A proven track record of delivering construction projects on time, within budget, and to established quality standards in a dynamic, multi-project environment is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of assigned construction projects, from conceptual planning to project closeout, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and project objectives.
  • Translate client goals into clear, actionable project plans and drive execution from design through completion.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and execution plans, ensuring delivery within scope, on time, and within budget.
  • Direct pre-construction activities including programming, feasibility analysis, design coordination, and cost estimating to establish a strong foundation for project success.
  • Oversee preparation and delivery of project status reports, communicating progress, risks, and key issues to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Lead project closeout activities, ensuring completion of commissioning, documentation, training, and operational readiness.
  • Manage projects within defined scope, budget, and schedule parameters, escalating complex risks or deviations as appropriate.
  • Coordinate owner-furnished equipment and materials, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), to ensure procurement and delivery align with project schedules.

Contracts and Financial Management

  • Manage procurement processes, including development of Requests for Proposal (RFPs), evaluation of vendors, and selection of contractors and consultants.
  • Execute and administer contracts in collaboration with legal and finance to ensure alignment with organizational standards and risk mitigation practices.
  • Review and approve invoices, payment applications, and change orders, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project budgets and scope.
  • Maintain accountability for project financial performance, including budget tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and legal protections, including confidentiality agreements and contract requirements, are in place.
  • Ensure contractors and vendors meet contractual requirements, including insurance, bonding, and compliance documentation.

Construction Oversight

  • Partner closely with Construction Managers to oversee on-site construction activities, ensuring adherence to design intent, quality standards, and contract requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance, including schedule adherence, change management, and use of contingencies and allowances.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment across all phases of project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with permitting, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes and standards throughout the construction process.
  • Identify project risks and proactively implement solutions to maintain project momentum and mitigate issues.
  • Escalate complex construction, financial, or stakeholder issues to appropriate project leadership as needed.

Project Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and coordination across internal teams, external partners, and project stakeholders to ensure effective communication and execution.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing project environment that emphasizes accountability, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Support onboarding and coordination of project team members, ensuring alignment with project goals and organizational standards.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, client stakeholders, and external project partners to support alignment, collaboration, and effective communication throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support evolving organizational needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field required; equivalent experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
  • 5–7+ years of experience managing construction or capital projects with demonstrated success delivering projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • Prior experience working in complex organizations, such as healthcare, higher education, museum/cultural institutions, nonprofits, or multi-entity structures, is strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of construction project delivery methods, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Proven ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and risk awareness.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
