As a Program Manager, Biocontainment Facility, you will lead facilities employees and provide leadership, orientation, training, coaching and mentoring to assigned employees within Cleveland Clinic Florida. In this role, you will oversee the installation, inspections, repairs, troubleshooting and daily maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, facility equipment and grounds within the respective skilled trade. You will communicate and coordinate facilities work using the CMMS, various departments and contractors, support system-wide initiatives and provide trade expertise. This position is responsible for engineering oversight of high-containment laboratory systems (Biosafety Level 3), as well as engineering and controls for Biosafety Level 2 laboratories.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Maintain basic knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements relative to departmental operations and ensure departmental compliance.

  • Be responsible for the safe and continuous operation of the assigned facilities shop/trade, including Preventive Maintenance, operation and testing in accordance with state laws, applicable codes and policies.

  • Develop Preventive Maintenance needed for maintaining building systems, trade standards/specifications and activities related to the annual maintenance shutdown for high-containment labs.

  • Develop a consistent management routine to review BAS control graphics and fault detection programs to identify potential disruptions in function.

  • Track repairs of equipment and systems.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate project records, including testing protocols, trend data and reports.

  • Support rational and beneficial energy conservation in lab HVAC operations.

  • Certify repairs and/or changes to the BSL-3 laboratory design, operational parameters and procedures prior to operation and in coordination with the Responsible Official and Director of Infrastructure.

  • Establish systems and processes to attract, develop, engage and retain talented employees.

  • Create a work environment where people can realize their full potential to meet current and future clinical and business challenges.

  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to assigned employees through coaching and mentoring.

  • Be accountable for staffing and capacity planning for the assigned shop/trade.

  • Focus and guide assigned employees in accomplishing work objectives while holding high expectations for self and others.

  • Develop and initiate training and operating procedures for the respective shop and ensure staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Perform quality assurance reviews of work completed by assigned employees.

  • Analyze problems and coordinate work plans with other departments as appropriate.

  • Be accountable for the development, monitoring and compliance of the departmental budget, including capital, operating and construction budgets.

  • Manage current expenses in a responsible manner, review inventory of equipment and materials, and initiate purchase requisitions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field

  • OR an additional four years of supervisory or managerial experience

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and associated graphical interfaces, preferably Siemens, Trane and Phoenix controls

  • Knowledge of conducting field tests, verification and certification of critical biocontainment systems for laboratory facilities to include but not limited to HEPA filtered systems including HVAC exhaust and supply filters, plumbing vent filters, and other systems equipped with HEPA filters

  • Ability to read electrical schematic diagrams

  • Four years of experience as a fully qualified tradesperson or technician in HVAC systems

  • Master license and other licenses required as appropriate for trade

  • Completion of apprenticeship trade or vocational school or knowledge obtained through four years of on-the-job training experience in HVAC systems

  • Must successfully obtain and maintain Biological Select Agent and Toxin clearance

  • Ability to work with employees, interdepartmental teams, and organizational leadership across the enterprise to effectively complete goals

  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for facility operations

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Membership in professional trade organization

  • A Professional Engineer license in the State of Florida

  • Active membership of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) organization

  • Two years of previous supervisory or managerial experience or demonstration of formal education in business management

  • Prior experience working in a research facility

  • Facilities management experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders; requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery; typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing 25 to 100 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs.

  • Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color coded wiring and piping.

  • This position requires candidates to obtain/maintain medical clearance through Cleveland Clinic’s Occupational Health Department to work in a Biosafety Level 3 Environment (BSL3). Medical clearance including medical management is completed upon hire, transfer, and annually. This includes but is not limited to requirements for wearing respiratory protection
