We are looking for an experienced and quality-focused QA Engineer to join a fast-growing technology environment building a developer-first, open-source API platform.
The role will focus on ensuring the quality, reliability, performance, and usability of APIs and developer-facing products. You will work closely with engineering and product teams to design effective testing strategies, identify defects early, automate repetitive testing, and ensure reliable releases.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and execute comprehensive test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test scenarios for API-driven products.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.
- Test REST APIs and validate requests, responses, authentication, data handling, error scenarios, and integrations.
- Identify, document, prioritise, and track defects through resolution.
- Collaborate closely with developers and product teams to understand requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Validate bug fixes and ensure defects are thoroughly resolved before release.
- Develop and maintain automated test cases for API and application testing.
- Build and improve regression test suites to increase test coverage and release confidence.
- Test different API workflows, edge cases, failure scenarios, and integration points.
- Participate in release testing and provide quality assessments and release-readiness feedback.
- Analyse test results and identify recurring quality issues or gaps in testing processes.
- Contribute to improving QA processes, testing standards, and engineering quality practices.
- Perform exploratory testing to identify usability, functional, and reliability issues that may not be covered by predefined test cases.
- Work with development teams to investigate technical issues and support root-cause analysis.
- Maintain clear and accurate QA documentation, test reports, and defect records.
- Contribute to CI/CD-based automated testing and continuous quality improvements.
- Stay updated with modern testing tools, API technologies, automation frameworks, and QA best practices.
WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT
- 3+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance, software testing, or a similar engineering role.
- Strong hands-on experience with API testing, particularly REST APIs.
- Good understanding of software testing methodologies, SDLC, STLC, defect lifecycle, and QA processes.
- Experience with functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.
- Hands-on experience with test automation and developing maintainable automated test suites.
- Strong understanding of API requests/responses, HTTP methods, status codes, authentication, headers, payloads, and error handling.
- Familiarity with tools such as Postman, REST Assured, Swagger/OpenAPI, or similar API testing tools.
- Experience working with databases and validating data through SQL queries.
- Strong debugging and analytical skills with the ability to identify root causes and reproduce complex issues.
- Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development workflows.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying quality risks.
- Ability to work closely with developers, product managers, and other technical stakeholders.
- Good understanding of automation frameworks and scripting/programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while taking ownership of QA activities and deliverables.
- Experience working in startups, SaaS, API platforms, developer tools, or open-source technology environments will be an advantage.
- Comfortable working in a fully on-site environment, five days a week, with a fast-paced and collaborative engineering team.
