Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to safely operate heavy equipment in support of machine and software validation activities at the Clayton Machine Development Center (CMDC). The operator will perform a variety of machine applications, identify and report performance issues, document daily machine activity, and provide feedback to engineering teams on machine operation and functionality.
Equipment operated may include Backhoe Loaders (BHL), Mini Hydraulic Excavators (MHE), Small Track Type Tractors (STTT), Small Wheel Loaders (SWL), and Work Tools (WT) products. Typical applications include excavation, grading, dozing, truck loading simulation, material handling, and lifting operations.
As experience and product knowledge are developed, the operator will assist in evaluating machine and tool performance and communicate observations through verbal discussions and written reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate construction equipment in support of endurance and validation testing activities.
Record daily machine usage, operating conditions, and performance concerns.
Promptly communicate safety, quality, or performance issues to the Team Leader.
Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventive maintenance activities.
Wash, inspect, and maintain assigned equipment.
Identify and report mechanical, structural, hydraulic, or electrical concerns.
Complete minor service and repair tasks as assigned.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Support testing activities across multiple machine platforms and applications.
Basic Requirements:
Minimum of 1 year of experience operating construction equipment or heavy machinery.
Basic understanding of construction machinery and mechanical systems
Strong commitment to workplace safety
Ability to work independently
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Top Candidates Will Have:
Experience assembling or repairing BHL, MHE, STTT, and SWL machines
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
Additional maintenance or heavy equipment repair experience

Shift: 2nd
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 PM - 4:30 AM
Starting pay rate: $21.07/hour
Work location: Clayton, NC Machine Development Center
No relocation benefits are available.

Summary Pay Range:
$21.70 - $27.35Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
