ABOUT THE ROLE
The Product Safety and Compliance Engineer supports Peloton's global Technical Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization by ensuring components and finished connected fitness equipment sourced from Taiwan and China meet Peloton's safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Based in Taichung, Taiwan, this position serves as Peloton's on-the-ground technical resource for its Asia-based supply chain, requiring up to 30% travel. This role works cross-functionally with Product, Design, Engineering, Global Quality, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs teams to ensure all products are safe, legally compliant, and certification-ready for global markets.This position places a strong emphasis on scalable processes, proactive pre-certification testing, root-cause analysis, and preventive action. Using structured methodologies such as 8D, the Engineer is expected to lead compliance strategies during product development and sustaining activities, resolve the underlying causes of supplier safety issues, and prevent recurrence, rather than applying reactive, short-term fixes. The engineer will also help drive initiatives that elevate product safety beyond baseline regulations throughout the entire product lifecycle.
YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON
- Partner with cross-functional teams to manage day-to-day safety and regulatory compliance activities with component suppliers and OEM/ODM manufacturers in Taiwan and China
- Drive the creation, scoping, scheduling, and execution of test and global certification plans (UL/CSA, CB Scheme, CCC, BSMI/CNS, PSE, CE, FCC/NCC, IC, and EN EMC)
- Develop pre-certification test strategies to proactively identify, debug, and resolve compliance and safety risks early in the development cycle
- Review and analyze lab/supplier test reports, certificates of compliance, and technical files for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to international standards
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) using structured 8D methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone) to systematically eliminate product non-conformances and supplier quality escapes
- Define and implement manufacturing audit protocols and factory inspections to ensure continuous regulatory compliance during mass production and on-site builds
- Build and manage strong working relationships with third-party certification bodies, including UL, TÜV, Intertek, and SGS
- Establish, standardize, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation packages, product safety files, and risk assessment records within product change workflows
- Monitor evolving global regulations (including mechanical safety and chemical compliance like REACH, RoHS, Prop65, and TSCA) and translate updates into actionable team guidance
- Review supplier engineering changes for safety and compliance impact, and support incident investigations or field corrective actions as required
- Location: Taichung, Taiwan (Up to 30% travel required)
YOU BRING TO PELOTON
- Bachelor's degree strictly required in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a highly related engineering discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or quality engineering within consumer electronics, fitness equipment, or electromechanical devices
- Proven expertise navigating international safety and compliance frameworks, including ASTM, EN, ISO mechanical standards, and global wireless/EMC testing requirements
- Solid familiarity with key consumer product standards (IEC 60335 series, IEC 62368-1, UL standards, ISO/EN 20957 fitness standards, and battery safety like IEC 62133 / UN 38.3)
- Foundational knowledge of global environmental and chemical regulations,including REACH, RoHS, Prop65, and TSCA compliance frameworks and chemical lab testing
- Mastery of structured root-cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa/Fishbone diagrams) with a strong, proven orientation toward systemic prevention over containment
- Direct, hands-on experience auditing, qualifying, and partnering with component suppliers and OEM/ODM hardware manufacturers based in Taiwan and China
- Based in Taichung, Taiwan, with the willingness and flexibility to travel up to 30% domestically and periodically to mainland China
- Professionally bilingual and completely fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese to effectively bridge global, cross-cultural teams
- Highly organized with strong analytical skills for interpreting schematics, blueprints, and lab reports; excellent cross-functional presentation capabilities
