CBC New Brunswick is looking for an experienced and dynamic producer to help lead the creation of original and engaging visual content on our TV, digital and social platforms.

The successful candidate will be an editorial leader and an experienced mentor, someone who demonstrates sound editorial judgment and who thrives as part of a team in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of a multi-platform newsroom.

In this role, you will collaborate with journalists across the newsroom to ensure we are marshalling and deploying our video resources across all of our stations effectively in order to set the news agenda and connect our audiences to the news they need to know, the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities.

You will be a strategic thinker who has a deep knowledge of digital, broadcast and social media strategies and trends, and you will put audience needs and audience growth at the centre of all your decision-making. You will have a strong desire to experiment with new forms of storytelling to help us engage more meaningfully with audiences. You will strive to broaden the range of perspectives and experiences reflected in our news content, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media.

You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, are a strong planner and organizer, and are at ease with juggling multiple tasks and priorities at once. You care about the people you work with and have a recognized ability to coach and motivate others.

You will ensure that all our work adheres to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and that it upholds our core principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity.

This role requires full time on site presence in Fredericton.

Your responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the senior producer, work with reporters, associate producers, VJs, video producers, videographers and editors to conceive of and produce digital-first visual news and current affairs content that will align with strategic objectives and will resonate with audiences across platforms.
  • Determine story treatments, vet scripts and video, and plan video content rollouts for all platforms.
  • Work with journalists in the newsroom and in the field to produce live programming across video platforms including our daily television news.
  • Provide editorial oversight to ensure our content is original, relevant and impactful, and meets our journalistic standards.
  • Collaborate with various teams across platforms and locations to ensure our visual content reaches the widest possible audience.
  • Inform best practices and streamline workflows for digital video platforms.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality.
  • Assist with planning coverage for special projects and events.
  • Fill in for the senior producer of visuals as warranted.

Your profile:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment.
  • Strong journalistic and critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
  • Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast-moving information and quickly redirect resources to meet priorities and objectives.
  • Knowledge of and experience in assigning and creating visual content for a variety of platforms (digital, social, television) as well as vetting, editing, fact-checking and packaging.
  • Experience in producing live visual content from the field and/or the control room.
  • Experience executing digital and social strategies including setting objectives, tracking results and reporting on outcomes.
  • A high-energy leader with a positive, team-first attitude and the demonstrated ability to motivate and coach teams, and encourage creativity.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in New Brunswick, and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
  • A keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of five years of journalism experience.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
