BNZ's Procurement tīma (team) plays a critical role in identifying and negotiating third-party contracts on behalf of the bank. Outsourcing in the banking sector has seen a significant change in the past 5 years, with regulatory requirements being a key focus during and post supplier negotiations.

We're looking for experienced technology procurement professionals with strong attention to detail, experience preparing complex market engagements (e.g. RFx), and proven capability drafting and negotiating complex supplier contracts for technology services and platforms. This tūranga will suit someone with direct procurement experience in any of the follow areas: software, applications, maintenance, mainframes, cyber, infrastructure and/or core banking systems.

You will have hands-on experience procuring and negotiating complex technology agreements in financial services, banking, or another regulated corporate environment.

This role can be Auckland or Wellington based and offers a flexible working environment which supports two days working from home.

What is the tīma culture and environment like?

We are a collaborative tīma focused on being strategic partners to our internal stakeholders. We aim to deliver market leading negotiations that support our business to grow now and in the future. We do this by using a category management and technology business unit engagement model allowing you to be an expert in the area you manage. This also includes an opportunity for cross collaboration and cross skilling in other categories and business units / subject matters across the procurement tīma.

What projects / mahi will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?

Joining our Procurement tīma, this tūranga will focus on developing and implementing strategies for key technology categories that support the direction of the BNZ Technology team. This is a major area of growth for our business, with several large-scale technology projects planned over the next 6 to 12 months. You will need to hit the ground running, quickly build trusted relationships with internal technology stakeholders, identify the most appropriate sourcing approach, lead market engagements, draft and negotiate contracts, and complete internal approvals through to contract execution in line with regulatory requirements and policies.

What specific skills are required to be successful?

We're looking for experienced technology procurement professionals with a strong background in financial services, banking, telecommunications, technology or another complex regulated environment. You will be confident engaging senior technology stakeholders, leading market engagements, and drafting, reviewing and negotiating supplier contracts, statements of work, schedules and commercial terms for complex technology goods and services. You'll bring:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in technology procurement, category management or a similar tūranga, with direct experience negotiating high-value third-party supplier contracts in a complex environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of the financial services or banking sector, including the procurement and regulatory considerations that apply to critical technology suppliers, is strongly preferred.
• Ability to establish and implement category strategies.
• Experience working in a highly regulated industry and complying with internal risk, regulatory and governance processes, including relevant banking obligations such as Banking Standard (BS) 11.
• Proven experience leading and delivering complex technology market engagements, including RFx activity for software, applications, maintenance, cyber, infrastructure, mainframes and/or core systems.
• Identify and deliver benefits by way of cost savings, cost avoidance and productivity improvements through strategic negotiations and delivery of category management.
• Skilled in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex supplier contracts, statements of work, schedules and commercial terms for technology products and services.
• Ability to self-manage, meet deadlines and prioritise your workload.
• Experience working on large-scale technology projects, strategic sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations in a corporate or regulated environment.
• Direct procurement experience is required; candidates whose experience is primarily in reseller sales, engineering procurement or non-technology categories may not align to the requirements of this tūranga.
• Effectively manage technology procurement portfolios within a complex or regulated organisation.

• Strong procurement acumen and practical knowledge of end-to-end procurement practices, including developing sourcing strategies, preparing RFx documentation, evaluating supplier responses and negotiating contract outcomes.
