Position Description

PIMCO is seeking an analytically minded, technology-curious professional to join its Dublin team as a Portfolio Analyst / Associate. Supporting portfolio management across PIMCO’s European trading rooms, the role combines investment analysis, trading desk support, portfolio maintenance and risk monitoring across a broad range of mandates and products.

The successful candidate will work closely with Portfolio Managers and partner teams across Account Management, Product Management, Legal and Compliance, and the cash desks to monitor portfolio positioning against investment guidelines, benchmarks and model weights.

Strong fixed income knowledge, analytical rigor and technical skills will be key, with responsibility for portfolio studies, performance and positioning analysis, and delivering timely insights to support investment decisions. The role also offers scope to improve how the team works, using automation, data analytics and AI-enabled tools to enhance portfolio management processes and workflows.

With close exposure to experienced Portfolio Managers and PIMCO’s broader European investment platform, this is a strong opportunity for someone looking to deepen their investment expertise while helping shape more efficient, technology-enabled ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Trading Support

  • Partner with European portfolio management teams to support trading desk activities and day-to-day portfolio maintenance.
  • Rebalance portfolios to model and target weights, coordinating with the trading and cash desks as required.
  • Monitor client portfolio position weights and product positioning against client guidelines and benchmarks.
  • Review and ensure pre- and post-trade compliance, working with Legal and Compliance to resolve potential issues promptly.

Portfolio Analytics & Reporting

  • Generate studies across a set of mandates or products in accordance with investment guidelines and benchmarks.
  • Prepare portfolio summaries and monitor portfolio performance.
  • Conduct performance and attribution analysis, along with other analytics requested by Portfolio Managers.
  • Create and maintain reports for risk monitoring, highlighting key exposures and changes for Portfolio Managers.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Build strong working relationships with Portfolio Management, Account Management, Product Management, Legal and Compliance, and the cash desks.
  • Communicate analysis, ideas and strategies clearly and concisely to Portfolio Managers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to identify and resolve issues.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Lead and contribute to project work focused on improving portfolio management processes and workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy and controls through automation, data analytics (e.g., Python, SQL, VBA) and emerging technologies, including AI tools.

Position Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in finance, economics, mathematics or another quantitative/analytical field from a leading university, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fixed income markets and instruments.
  • Advanced Excel and Bloomberg skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, SQL or VBA.
  • Demonstrated curiosity about, and experience using, new and emerging technologies and AI tools in your work.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact, communicate and build relationships with experienced Portfolio Managers, articulating ideas and strategies clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization to resolve issues.
  • Proven track record of working efficiently in high-pressure environments and consistently meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience in portfolio management support, portfolio analytics, trading support or a related investment role within asset management.
  • Exposure to performance attribution, risk analytics or investment guideline/pre- and post-trade compliance processes.
  • Progress toward the CFA or a similar professional qualification.
