The OSP / Passive Infrastructure Engineer designs, plans, and manages physical outside-plant telecom infrastructure (underground duct routes, fiber optic networks, manholes, handholes, pole lines, and outdoor cabinets). This role ensures physical connectivity, civil works compliance, and network expansion outside the data center or main facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Route Planning: Design civil routes for underground and aerial fiber cable deployment, including trenching, duct allocation, and chamber placement.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Oversight: Manage field contractors during horizontal directional drilling (HDD), excavation, cable blowing, and civil construction.
- Permitting & Authority Approvals: Coordinate with local municipalities, utility companies, and road authorities to obtain Right-of-Way (RoW) and excavation permits.
- GIS & CAD Mapping: Maintain detailed GIS (Geographic Information System) layers, As-Built drawings, and AutoCAD schematics for all outside plant assets.
- Site Acceptance & Quality Control: Inspect civil and fiber installations in the field to verify adherence to national telecom standards and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Telecom Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of OSP civil works, trenchless technology (HDD), fiber cable blowing, civil chambers/manholes, and RoW regulations in Saudi Arabia/GCC.
- Software Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), and fiber management systems.
- Certifications (Preferred): FOA Certified Outside Plant Technician (CFOT/O), PMP, or BICSI OSP Designer.
