We Require

  • Three years of experience in a park or related recreation field
  • One year of supervisory experience (preferably within a park or recreation environment)
  • High School Diploma
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements  

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire

Job Contributions

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise the daily operation of a regional park and its services, facilities, and activities: oversee park programs and amenities, including, but not limited to, special use events, natural/cultural resources protection, trails, campgrounds, other park facilities, park safety program, in-captivity animal care, and multi-agency coordination; collaborate with Park Superintendent to resolve issues affecting park operations and visitor services

  • Protect and manage park resources; provide operational oversight; collect fees; ensure compliance with park rules and policies; respond to emergencies; coordinate with law enforcement and emergency response agencies; and maintain a safe environment for visitors, staff, and park resources. Responsible for supervising, hiring, evaluating, and training park staff and volunteers; plans, prepares, and revises work schedules and duty assignments according to park operation and customer needs, issues, workload, and statistical forecasts

  • Protect and manage park cultural and natural resources; ensure compliance with park rules, regulations, and policies; respond to emergencies and notify appropriate law enforcement and emergency response organizations; coordinate emergency response efforts and maintain situational awareness to ensure the safety of park visitors, staff, and the overall park environment; oversee park safety and risk management programs  

  • Coordinate maintenance duties and needs: identify, prioritize, and delegate maintenance repairs and improvements; conduct routine inspections; and ensure proper utilization and maintenance of park utilities, facilities, amenities, and infrastructure

  • Coordinate administrative duties to maximize revenue generation and ensure efficient use of park facilities and resources; oversee revenue-producing operations, including entry stations, nature center, activities, souvenir sales, point-of-sale systems, special use events, interpretive services, and purchasing requests; operate within approved expenditure budgets; provide information and recommendations for the development and management of budgets related to grants, capital improvement projects (CIP), souvenir fund, donation fund, enhancement fund, and special revenue funds; monitor financial performance and support long-range fiscal planning

  • Serve as a liaison between the Department, stakeholders, and other local, state, and federal agencies regarding park operations, management, and resource stewardship; coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to support park initiatives and operational objectives  

  • Address and resolve park user complaints and concerns; coordinate with staff to resolve operational issues impacting visitors and park services; promote high-quality customer service and positive visitor experiences  

  • Develop and support marketing initiatives to promote the Park, its programs, facilities, and events; create website alerts, social media communications, and public information notices; support interpretive services and public outreach efforts to increase visitor engagement and awareness

  • Prepare and maintain reports related to revenue, attendance, budget performance, project progress, safety, risk management, and monthly operational summaries; analyze operational data and performance metrics to support decision-making and resource allocation; ensure required documentation, records, and reports are completed accurately and timely

Working Conditions

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations
  • Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
  • Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
  • Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware: Microsoft Suite and point-of-sale/reservation systems. Wildlife exhibit care.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as needed to perform the various park-related tasks
