Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), one of the nation’s premier pediatric academic medical centers, seeks an exceptional fellowship-trained Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgeon to lead our Oculoplastics Program. This is a unique faculty opportunity to direct a nationally recognized program within one of the country’s largest and most comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology divisions.

As Oculoplastics Director, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on the foundation built by Dr. Jeff Nerad and others to shape the future of pediatric oculoplastic care through clinical innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and research while developing a program aligned with their individual expertise and interests.

Opportunity Highlights

Build a Destination Pediatric Oculoplastics Program

  • Lead the strategic growth of a comprehensive pediatric oculoplastics and orbital surgery program.

  • Develop clinical centers of excellence in areas including congenital eyelid disorders, orbital disease, lacrimal surgery, pediatric facial trauma, vascular anomalies, thyroid eye disease, anophthalmia/microphthalmia, orbital tumors, and reconstructive surgery.

  • Shape referral pathways across the region and nationally while participating in programmatic growth initiatives supported by hospital leadership.

Exceptional Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Become an integral member of highly collaborative multidisciplinary teams, including:

  • Craniofacial Surgery

  • Pediatric Neurosurgery

  • Medical Genetics

  • Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery

  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

  • Dermatology

  • Oncology

  • Vascular Anomalies

  • Endocrinology

  • Interventional Radiology

The position offers flexibility to develop specialized multidisciplinary clinics and surgical programs that align with the candidate’s clinical and academic interests.

Robust Referral Network

Join one of the nation’s largest pediatric ophthalmology programs, supported by:

  • A large team of 12 pediatric ophthalmologists with diverse subspecialty expertise

  • An established pediatric optometry practice with 10 faculty providing coordinated comprehensive eye care, specialty contact lens services and robust referral volume

  • Dedicated orthoptists, ophthalmic technicians, imaging specialists, nursing, and administrative support

  • Comprehensive care coordination resources to optimize patient access and multidisciplinary care

  • Strong regional, national, and international referral base

Comprehensive Program Coordination and Patient Navigation Support

A distinguishing feature of Cincinnati Children’s is the availability of robust care coordination and program management resources designed to support patient care and referral access.

The Pediatric Oculoplastics Director will have access to:

  • Dedicated care coordination resources to facilitate complex multidisciplinary evaluations and longitudinal patient management.

  • Programmatic support for development and expansion of multidisciplinary centers of excellence.

  • Patient navigation services that improve access for regional, national, and international referrals.

  • Coordinated scheduling infrastructure to streamline multidisciplinary clinic experiences for patients and families.

  • Institutional resources to support program growth initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and patient experience enhancement.

These resources allow faculty to focus on delivering exceptional clinical care, advancing research, and building innovative programs while ensuring a seamless experience for patients and families.

Flexible Adult Practice Opportunities

For candidates with interest, opportunities may exist to develop a hybrid pediatric-adult oculoplastic practice through collaboration with regional adult ophthalmology partners. This flexibility allows continued development of specialized expertise while maintaining a primary focus on pediatric care.

Leadership Opportunity

The Program Director will partner closely with departmental and institutional leadership to:

  • Define the strategic vision for pediatric oculoplastics

  • Expand multidisciplinary clinical programs

  • Develop innovative models of care delivery

  • Advance research and education

  • Build a nationally and internationally recognized destination program

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent

  • Board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology

  • Fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Ohio

  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, teaching, and academic scholarship

  • Leadership experience or demonstrated potential to build and lead innovative clinical programs is preferred.
