Position Summary

Mt. Bachelor's Nordic Lodge Staff have the incredible job of connecting guests with the opportunity to have a great day in the Nordic area. Lodge Staff provide outstanding guest service to all Nordic ticketing, rental, and retail guests through friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive ticket sales, lesson registrations, equipment outfitting, and retail sales. 

This front-line service position is often high volume and fast-paced and requires the ability to remain calm and effective during busy times. Primary duties include greeting guests, selling trail passes and Nordic lessons, providing trail and equipment information, operating the point-of-sale system, handling cash, accurately sizing guests with equipment, performing basic ski maintenance and base preparation, and selling technical clothing and accessories. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Sell a variety of trail and season pass products using a complex software program while maintaining friendly and calm customer service. Collect waivers and payment. 

  • Sell rental equipment to customers. Correctly size guests with boots, skis, and poles. Explain the function and proper use of rental equipment. Ensure equipment is returned in good working condition.  

  • Regularly wax and maintain the rental equipment. 

  • Provide prompt turnaround and quality work on customer waxes & repairs. 

  • Efficiently sell Nordic ski lessons accurately and appropriately in-person and via phone. Describe the various lesson offerings, register students via a complex software system, collect payment, and maintain excellent attention to detail. 

  • Accurately check in lessons and inform guests of lesson meeting areas and details.

  • Sell apparel and accessories in the retail shop. Advise shoppers on products and develop detailed technical knowledge of the brands and items in the store. Assist guests with questions, product selections, and concerns. 

  • Keep merchandise displays neat and organized. Monitor fitting room use.

  • Answer a wide variety of questions, provide maps and information, and answer phone calls regularly. 

  • Open and close computer workstation. Load cash drawer and ticket printer. 

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area. 

  • Assist with special events as directed by the manager. This may include working indoors or outdoors in a variety of roles for night events, races, and other events. 

  • Assist in snow shoveling/ice chipping, splitting, and stacking firewood, and maintaining the wood stove. 

Secondary Functions

  • Check trail passes at the ticket gate and out on the trails.  

  • Clean high-use lodge spaces including restrooms, cafe seating, cubbies, carpets, and employee work and lounge spaces.  

  • Assist with Nordic Center Events and Races in roles including crowd control, ticket checking, course monitoring, aid station management, tour guide, activity instructor, etc. 

Job Scope

Primary source of ticket sales, lesson reservations, and rental and retail assistance. Should possess strong knowledge of retail offerings and be confident and effective in sales techniques to move entire inventory in seasonal operation. Responsible for distributing rental equipment that will ensure 100% guest satisfaction through accurate sizing and ongoing rental fleet maintenance. 

Interpersonal Contacts

Guests, Nordic Staff in all positions, other resort employees, and departments including IT, Lodge Services, Building Maintenance, Guest Services, Parking, Security, etc. 

Specific Job Skills

  • Technical- Current and proficient computer skills with willingness to learn resort software. Use of waxing iron, scrapers, drill, hand tools, shovel, axe, splitting maul, ice chippers.

  • Physical Capabilities – Able to split and carry wood. Prolonged standing. Frequent climbing stairs, lifting, bending, and reaching.

  • Additional- Experience in cash handling, knowledge of Nordic skiing, strong background in guest service.

Education/Related Experience

  • Minimum education required: Ability to read, write, and follow directions. 

  • Minimum time in related position: Less than one year. 

Current Hiring Rate: $16.50/hr

Minimum Age Requirement: 16+
