Position Summary: 

The NICU and Pediatric Registered Dietitian provides specialized clinical nutrition services for neonatal, infant, and pediatric inpatient populations, including patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), nursery, and pediatric care settings. This role is responsible for assessing nutritional needs, developing and managing individualized nutrition care plans, and supporting evidence-based patient care through interdisciplinary collaboration, nutrition education, and clinical documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Successful completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship.
  • Montana Licensure (Licensed Nutritionist) within thirty (30) days of hire and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of NICU and/or pediatric clinical nutrition experience.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) through CDR.

Essential Job Functions:

In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Conducts and documents nutrition screenings, assessments, reassessments, and consults utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and ADIME framework.
  • Provides medical nutrition therapy for neonatal, infant, and pediatric inpatient populations, including patients requiring specialized nutrition support.
  • Assesses laboratory values, growth trends, anthropometric data, feeding tolerance, and nutrition-focused physical findings to guide care planning.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors individualized nutrition care plans, including recommendations for therapeutic diets, enteral nutrition, and parenteral nutrition.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and collaboration with providers, nursing, pharmacy, and ancillary departments to support coordinated patient care.
  • Provides nutrition education and counseling to patients and families appropriate to developmental and clinical needs.
  • Supports safe and compliant milk room operations, including handling and storage practices for human milk, donor milk, and formula.
  • Documents nutrition care, recommendations, and patient response accurately and timely within the electronic health record.
  • Serves as a nutrition resource for inpatient clinical staff within neonatal and pediatric care settings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule Requirements

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

  • Reach Above Shoulder Level (Repeatedly): Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects as necessary above the shoulder, requiring strength and stability.
  • Push/Pull (Repeatedly): Using the upper extremities to press or exert force against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Fine-Finger Movements (Continuously): Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than using the whole hand as in handling.
  • Vision (Continuously): Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures and to read computer screens, printed materials, and handwritten materials.
  • Cognitive Skills (Continuously): Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
  • Exposures (Continuously): Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed. Various chemicals and medications are used in healthcare settings. Job tasks may involve handling cleaning products, disinfectants, and other substances. Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
