Company-Provided Vehicle: Sprinter vans will be provided for all scheduled routes. Drivers are not required to use their personal vehicles while performing job duties.

Mission of Role/Position Summary:
The Mobile Safety Associate/Driver supports the safe, respectful, and orderly operation of temporary mobile warming shelters during cold weather events. This role focuses on maintaining a safe environment, assisting in managing lines or crowds, de-escalating conflicts, driving the mobile shelter van, and responding to safety concerns while treating all guests with dignity and compassion.
This position is not law enforcement and not armed security and emphasizes observation, communication, and coordination with shelter leadership and emergency services when needed.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Safety & Security Operations
- Manage guest flow, capacity limits, and line order during loading and offboarding.
- Conduct routine walkthroughs of the vehicle interior and immediate exterior area during assigned shifts.
- Identify and promptly report safety concerns, hazards, or suspicious activity to operational leadership.
- Ensure aisles, exits, and emergency equipment remain clear and accessible at all times.
Conflict Prevention, De-Escalation, & Guest Interactions
- Use trauma-informed, verbal de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts between guests or between guests and staff.
- Intervene early to prevent escalation while maintaining personal safety and respecting guest autonomy.
- Reinforce mobile warming station guidelines related to behavior, capacity, and safety in a respectful manner.
- Request leadership support or emergency assistance when situations exceed the capacity of mobile team.
Emergency Response & Incident Management
- Respond calmly and appropriately to medical, behavioral, or safety emergencies within the mobile environment.
- Contact emergency services (EMS, fire, police) when required and in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist with vehicle-specific emergency procedures, including evacuation or relocation of the mobile warming shelter.
- Complete incident reports accurately and promptly following any safety or emergency event.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain the safety and integrity of the mobile warming shelter operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience working with homeless, at-risk, or vulnerable populations preferred.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
- Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations.
- Comfortable working in diverse environments with individuals of all backgrounds.
- Must be able to exercise sound judgment and patience when handling sensitive situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Safety Officer may have lead responsibilities within projects or small teams depending on function with senior level support.
Expected Hours of Work:
Expected schedule 3-4 days per week up to 12 hours per day when activated. Schedule may vary. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability and punctuality are paramount.
Travel Requirements:
- Must be comfortable driving throughout the NYC 5 Burroughs
- Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to regularly drive a motor vehicle to and between client locations, including for extended periods as business needs require.
- Ability to enter and exit a vehicle frequently throughout the workday and safely navigate client sites and work locations. Mobility on-site with clients required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout client locations for varying periods of time.
- Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed.
Working Environment:
- Emergency management consultants may work in an office or home environment or be deployed to the field which may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Work may be on-site with clients ex: EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings.
- All AC Disaster Consulting (ACDC) positions are remote work site positions with the home location agreed upon at time of hire.
Requirements
Experience/Education Required:
- 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in public safety, emergency response, community outreach, behavioral health, homeless services, law enforcement, fire service, EMS, or related field required.
- 2+ years experience operating passenger vans or fleet vehicles and maintaining a safe driving record required.
- 2+ years Demonstrated experience managing potentially volatile situations, conducting risk assessments, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and engaging respectfully with vulnerable populations in community-based settings required.
- Valid Driver’s License & insurance in your name
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 2+ years experience with de-escalation, conflict resolution, or customer service
- Ability to follow written and verbal procedures
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts
- At least 1 year experience as a Security/Safety Guard
Experience/Education Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Health, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years experience within an Incident Command System (ICS) environment strongly preferred
- 5+ years experience in law enforcement, fire/EMS, military police, emergency management, or hospital security
- Experience with homeless services or shelter operations
- Experience with Security, safety monitoring, or site control
- Experience with Social services, behavioral health, or crisis response
- Experience with Emergency management or disaster response
- Preferred Certifications:
- Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
- Mental Health First Aid
- FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700
- CPR/AED
- First Aid
- NARCAN administration
- Defensive Driving Certification
- Security or Public Safety certifications
Additional Requirements:
- Must be 25 years of age or older.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsored visa is required. We are not able to employ those located outside of the US.
- Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
