À propos de ce poste Mitigation Engineer chez Stand Insurance
Why Join Stand: At Stand, you’ll help build a new class of global property protection. We use advanced physics and AI to model catastrophic risk at the asset level, then automate underwriting and mitigation before loss occurs. Insurance is simply the current delivery mechanism. The real product is a scalable risk engine, our Stand World Model.
We stay when traditional insurers exit. We model what others approximate. And we build systems that change outcomes, not just prices.
Our leadership team includes former successful founders and CEOs from Metromile, PolicyGenius, WePay, and HotelTonight, bringing deep experience in building and scaling high-growth companies.
Background: The property insurance industry is built to price loss after it happens. It relies on coarse proxies, backward-looking data, and manual processes, then accepts damage as unavoidable.
Stand takes a different approach. We simulate how real-world catastrophes affect individual properties, translate that into actionable decisions, and automate the business around it. The result is a platform that can underwrite what others can’t and operate with far less friction.
The role
Stand writes home insurance for the properties most exposed to wildfire and hurricane risk, and we underwrite it with science and engineering instead of a spreadsheet and a guess. The Mitigation Engineer owns the Stand Protection Plan end-to-end for every inspected property — making the vegetation, structure, and hazard calls, shipping an accurate, defensible plan, and running the Protection Review call that gets the homeowner to a real yes.
What you will do:
Own the Stand Protection Plan for each inspected property. Make the vegetation, structure, and hazard calls and ship an accurate, defensible plan.
Run the Protection Review call. Walk homeowners and brokers through the plan, handle pushback, and get to a real yes.
Help shape what gets automated. Use what you see in the queue and on calls to flag rules that misfire and recommend which calls should be automated as we enter new markets.
What we're looking for:
2-5 years in consulting, banking, big tech, or another analytically rigorous environment — trajectory matters more than tenure.
Precision at volume: your accuracy holds as the pace rises and the queue gets deep.
Client-facing nerve: you can run a call, handle pushback, and get to a real yes without giving away scope that matters.
Judgment you can defend in writing: you can say clearly which requirements actually protect a home and why.
Speed in a new tool: productive within days and opinionated about it within a week.
Clear, empathetic communication: you explain requirements and tradeoffs to non-technical people plainly.
Nice-to-Haves:
Property, construction, or home-inspection background
Wildfire science, defensible space, or home-hardening knowledge
GIS or aerial / imagery analysis experience
Insurance experience, especially underwriting or risk assessment
High-volume, accuracy-critical production work against a defined quality bar
This is not the right seat if you
Need a defined lane, a playbook, or heavy structure.
Only know how to work a queue you are handed.
Coast on old contacts instead of building new ones.
