About TEGNA
TEGNA Inc. helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
We are looking for Microservices Developers to build and operate the backend C#/.NET services that power TEGNA's content management and streaming platforms. Our content management side runs on Azure (C#/.NET Function Apps with a Service Bus event backbone). You'll work as part of a collaborative, cross-domain team, turning the epics and stories that flow down from our Solutions Architects into working, reliable services, with support from senior engineers, a hands-on team lead, and the cloud team. This is a strong fit for engineers who want to grow in cloud-native, event-driven development within a modern Azure/AWS environment.
Responsibilities
● Build, test, and maintain C#/.NET microservices, primarily as Azure Function Apps, across the content
management and streaming-support domains.
● Implement event-driven workflows using Azure Service Bus and other messaging patterns.
● Develop and consume RESTful APIs, and contribute to containerized, cloud-agnostic services running on
Kubernetes.
● Turn stories and epics into working implementation, and participate in design discussions, code reviews,
and testing.
● Help operate services in production: monitoring, troubleshooting, and addressing performance and
reliability issues.
● Work cloud-native across our Azure/AWS environment, following the infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD
practices set by the cloud team and Cloud Architect.
● Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum team with disciplined source control: clear branching, pull requests, and
code review.
Requirements
● 2+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services (or equivalent strong
fundamentals).
● Working proficiency in C#/.NET; experience with serverless/Azure Functions is a plus.
● Understanding of RESTful API design and basic distributed-systems concepts.
● Exposure to messaging or event-driven patterns (Service Bus, queues, pub/sub) is a plus.
● Hands-on experience with cloud-native development (Azure and/or AWS) — not solely on-premises
systems — is valued; eagerness to grow into our hybrid stack.
● Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum team with Git-based source control at a team level.
● Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform, and a habit of writing tests, are pluses.
● Media, streaming, or high-traffic platform experience is a plus.
