Job Summary:
Responsible for the creation of mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations throughout all phases of project design under close supervision. Assists in developing mechanical system layouts and design documentation for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), piping, and equipment systems using working knowledge of applicable codes and standards. Collaborates with mechanical engineers, designers, and modelers to produce coordinated 2D and 3D models using CAD tools and deliver high-quality, constructible design solutions within budget and schedule. Supports construction administration activities by reviewing submittals, responding to requests for information (RFIs), and participating in site visits as directed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assists in the production of mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations during the project design lifecycle from conceptual design through construction documents under close supervision.
Supports development of mechanical system layouts, including HVAC, hydronic piping, ductwork, and equipment placement, using working knowledge of mechanical codes and standards.
Prepares mechanical design documentation such as equipment schedules, diagrams, and layout plans with guidance from senior engineers.
Supports construction administration activities, including review of shop drawings, responses to RFIs, and participation in site visits as assigned.
Utilizes working knowledge of CAD and modeling software to create coordinated 2D drawings and 3D mechanical models.
Collaborates with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure mechanical designs are coordinated and aligned with project requirements.
Incorporates quality control feedback and redline comments to improve accuracy, constructability, and consistency of mechanical deliverables.
Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
Work Experience:
2+ years of experience in mechanical design, building systems design, or a related field required.
Certifications and Licenses:
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
NCEES record maintenance for future licensure preferred.
