GDI Facilities Support

Summary

The Facilities Support position provides dependable logistical and project support across DPSCD schools, warehouses, and other assigned facilities. The primary responsibility is loading, safely transporting, delivering, unloading, staging, and accounting for supplies, materials, furniture, and equipment. The position also performs basic assembly, installation, moving, setup, cleanup, and other facility-support work within the employee's training and ability. This role requires a responsible, organized, trustworthy self-starter who follows through on assignments, protects District and company property, and works productively with limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Receive delivery and project assignments; confirm destinations, quantities, priorities, and access requirements and plan an efficient route or work sequence.

·       Load, secure, transport, unload, and stage custodial supplies, paper products, chemicals, tools, equipment, furniture, fixtures, and other approved materials between warehouses, schools, and support facilities.

·       Operate assigned vehicles safely and lawfully; complete required vehicle checks and immediately report accidents, damage, warning lights, maintenance needs, or unsafe conditions.

·       Safely use carts, dollies, hand trucks, pallet jacks, lift gates, straps, ladders, hand tools, and other approved equipment when trained and authorized.

·       Protect materials from damage, weather, contamination, loss, and theft; verify counts and condition and obtain required signatures, receipts, photographs, or electronic delivery confirmation.

·       Receive, count, inspect, label, sort, pick, stage, organize, rotate, and inventory materials; keep storage areas, aisles, exits, vehicles, and staging locations clean and orderly.

·       Maintain appropriate control of keys, badges, devices, tools, vehicles, high-value materials, and other property entrusted to the position and promptly report shortages, damage, loss, or delivery exceptions.

·       Assemble, disassemble, move, place, and adjust furniture, shelving, carts, storage units, equipment, and similar items according to instructions.

·       Install or replace basic non-trade items such as soap, sanitizer, paper-towel, and tissue dispensers; signs; holders; hooks; protective pads; and similar fixtures when properly trained.

·       Assist with classroom, office, cafeteria, event, training, seasonal, and emergency setups; relocation projects; room cleanouts; material staging; supply-kit preparation; and post-project cleanup.

·       Provide general labor support to facilities, custodial, maintenance, grounds, warehouse, vendor, and project teams based on operational needs and the employee's training and demonstrated ability.

·       Perform visual checks of delivered, assembled, or installed items and report missing parts, damage, instability, unsafe conditions, or work requiring a licensed trade.

·       Maintain accurate delivery logs, inventory transfers, vehicle records, time records, work orders, receipts, photographs, and status updates; provide clear handoffs for unfinished work.

·       Follow site check-in, identification, key-control, alarm, access, confidentiality, and security procedures and interact professionally with school staff, custodial teams, vendors, students, and visitors.

·       Perform other lawful and reasonable duties as assigned that support logistics, school readiness, facility operations, safety, or customer service and are consistent with the employee's training and ability.

Performance Safety and Assignment Expectations

·       Report on time and prepared for work; remain available and productive throughout the shift, travel between assigned locations, identify the next productive step, and seek additional work when assignments are complete.

·       Do not refuse, abandon, substitute, or materially change an assignment without promptly discussing the concern with the supervisor, except when pausing is necessary to address an immediate safety risk.

·       Notify the supervisor promptly when access, vehicle condition, equipment, staffing, materials, safety, or another legitimate constraint may prevent timely completion; provide an accurate status and recommended next step.

·       Follow safe-lifting, team-lifting, cargo-securement, traffic, ladder, chemical-handling, personal protective equipment, and equipment-specific requirements; maintain safe pathways and protect occupants and property.

·       Stop work, secure the area when practical, and notify the supervisor when an assignment presents an imminent hazard, requires training or equipment not provided, exceeds demonstrated ability, or requires a license, permit, hazardous-material response, confined-space entry, or specialized trade.

·       Treat work time, vehicles, fuel, tools, materials, purchasing resources, and District and company property responsibly and use them only for authorized business purposes.

·       Demonstrate honesty, accountability, teamwork, sound judgment, and professionalism when reporting time, handling property, communicating mistakes or delays, and completing assignments.

Qualifications

·       High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

·       Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company requirements; ability to qualify to operate assigned vehicles. A commercial driver's license is required only when legally required for the assigned vehicle or duty.

·       Delivery, warehouse, moving, general labor, facilities, custodial, construction-support, or related experience preferred.

·       Demonstrated reliability, honesty, organization, initiative, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, customer service, and ability to follow directions through completion.

·       Ability to read labels, delivery and assembly instructions, safety information, building maps, and work orders; use a smartphone or mobile work-order application; maintain accurate records; and communicate clearly.

·       Ability to work independently and with a team in occupied school environments and pass all required background, driving-record, drug, and employment screenings.

·       Availability for occasional early-morning, evening, weekend, emergency, or weather-related assignments when scheduled or required by operational needs.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

·       Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier or bulky items with team assistance or approved mechanical equipment.

·       Stand, walk, push, pull, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, enter and exit vehicles repeatedly, drive between sites, and perform repetitive material-handling tasks for extended periods.

·       Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather and around loading areas, traffic, dust, noise, cleaning products, moving equipment, warehouses, schools, and other facilities while following required protective measures.

·       Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
