AI-Augmented Pre-Development - Accelerating Innovation Through AI, Rapid Learning Loops and Engineering Decision Support
Background
How can AI help product development teams innovate faster, learn faster, and make better decisions earlier? Husqvarna Construction is exploring how Generative AI can support early phases in product development through customer understanding, technology scouting, concept generation, knowledge reuse and engineering decision-making. A key focus is how AI can enable rapid learning loops, frequent iterations and exploration of multiple solution alternatives before committing to a concept.
Thesis Objective
Assess how pre-development is performed today, identify bottlenecks and opportunities, investigate where AI creates value, evaluate AI support for concept generation, trade-off analysis and knowledge reuse, explore AI support for Set-Based Concurrent Engineering (SBCE), and develop a Proof-of-Concept demonstrator.
Potential Areas of Investigation
• Customer, application and market understanding
• Technology and patent scouting
• Concept generation and design-space exploration
• Engineering trade-off analysis
• Knowledge reuse and organizational learning
• Learning-loop driven product development
• AI-supported decision making
• Set-Based Concurrent Engineering (SBCE)
Expected Deliverables
• Assessment of current practices and future outlook
• Framework for AI-Augmented Pre-Development
• Evaluation of AI-supported learning loops
• Assessment of AI support for SBCE
• Proof-of-Concept demonstrator
• Recommendations for industrial implementation
