POSITION SUMMARY:

Part of the MPLX-L&S-Global Marine leadership team, the Marine Assurance Director serves a critical role in identifying and managing risk associated with global fleet operations.   This role leads an international team of maritime professionals and contractors to inspect and ensure all vessels meet MPC standards prior to service.  In this capacity, there is a sequential and close working relationship with Commercial Marine Operations and local Port Captains.  The Marine Assurance Director also manages third party relationships and represents MPC interests with industry groups and committees. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for overall management of MPC's Blue Water Marine Assurance program and ensures all governing documents are maintained in accordance with operational activities, regulatory requirements and industry best practices. 
• Leads an international team of maritime professionals who vet and assess vessels, terminals, Ship-to-Ship (STS) transshipment locations and marine service providers to ensure the safety and integrity of MPC’s global maritime assets.
• Oversees tanker, barge and tug ship inspection contractors conducting inspections globally.
• Provides subject matter expert support for marine risk to the MPC/MPLX enterprise.
• Directs and coordinates assessments of technical operators of time-chartered tankers and barges/tugs and subsequent follow-up meetings.
• Directs analytical review and documentation of corrective actions identified in technical operator assessments, vessel incidents, Port Captain boots-on-deck, pre-hire, and SIRE inspections. 
• Maintains relationships with tanker, barge and tug technical operators by providing Marathon terminal feedback on their managed vessels and engagement during in-person meetings.
• Represents Marathon membership with OCIMF by participating in principal committees and associated work groups.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Ten (10) years maritime petroleum industry experience required.
• Five (5) years of leadership experience preferred.
