Description Summary

The Manager of Academic Advising is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of undergraduate academic advising operations within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering. Reporting to an Associate Director, this position manages and supervises a team of professional academic advisors and is accountable for the delivery of high-quality advising services that promote student success, persistence, retention, and timely degree completion.


The Manager leads operational planning, staff supervision, project implementation, and continuous improvement efforts that support university, college, and unit strategic goals. This position serves as a key leader in advancing student success initiatives through effective supervision, assessment, implementation of advising programs and services, data-informed decision making, continuous process improvement, and collaboration with faculty, administrators, and campus partners.


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student affairs, higher education administration, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience supervising, hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating two or more professional staff members. Demonstrated experience leading operational processes, programs, or student success initiatives in a higher education environment. Comprehensive knowledge of undergraduate academic advising principles, student development theory, and university policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and communicate complex academic, university, and college policies while exercising sound judgment and decision-making. Proven ability to lead through influence, foster collaboration, and build effective working relationships across academic departments and university offices. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and assess processes, procedures, and operational improvements that support student success and organizational effectiveness. Experience leading projects or initiatives that advance student success, retention, persistence, graduation, or operational excellence. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, assess outcomes, and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive, student-centered environment and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Thorough understanding of FERPA and demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and educate others regarding confidentiality requirements and student records. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, allocate resources, and adapt to changing organizational needs.


Desired Qualifications

8-12 years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student affairs, enrollment management, or higher education administration. 3+ years of supervisory or managerial experience leading professional staff. Experience managing advising operations within a large, complex, decentralized or centralized higher education environment. Demonstrated experience leading organizational change, implementing new initiatives, or managing continuous improvement efforts. Experience developing and implementing student success strategies that support retention, persistence, graduation, and equitable student outcomes. Experience leading cross-functional projects involving multiple academic departments or university partners. Broad knowledge of undergraduate curriculum, degree requirements, university academic policies, graduation certification, and enrollment processes. Advanced knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS), degree audit systems, CRM technologies, and student success platforms, including experience utilizing data to inform operational and strategic decision-making. Knowledge of federal regulations, including FERPA and Title IX, as well as university policies related to student records, academic integrity, and student conduct. Experience supporting or coordinating orientation programs, first-year experience initiatives, undergraduate survey courses, or other student success programs. Demonstrated experience with assessment, strategic planning, data analysis, and program evaluation. Experience preparing reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership. Demonstrated ability to develop staff, foster a positive organizational culture, and lead teams through change and continuous improvement.

Hiring Range: $58,700 - $77,200

The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
