The Role

As a Mainframe WAS MQ Systems Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities :

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) for z/OS and IBM MQ environments across development, test, and production systems.
• Administer MQ Queue Managers, Queue Sharing Groups (QSG), Sysplex environments, and Coupling Facility structures to ensure high availability and performance.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of WAS and MQ issues, including JVM crashes, thread dumps, application failures, queue management, and performance bottlenecks.
• Monitor, tune, and optimize middleware infrastructure using tools such as OMEGAMON, RMF, MQ Explorer, Dynatrace, SYSVIEW, and BMC MainView.
• Design and implement MQ clustering, workload balancing, disaster recovery, backup, recovery, and business continuity solutions.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using wsadmin (Jython), REXX, and shell scripting to improve operational efficiency and deployment processes.
• Implement and maintain security controls including SSL/TLS, JAAS, SAF integration, RACF policies, and MQ security best practices.
• Participate in 24x7 on-call support, major incident management, root cause analysis, documentation, and mentoring of junior administrators while driving continuous service improvements.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• 6 to 10 years of experience in IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS (WASz) administration and IBM MQ support.
• Strong experience in installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IBM MQ environments.
• Hands-on expertise with Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and Coupling Facility technologies.
• Experience with MQ Explorer, Tivoli Monitoring, OMEGAMON, SYSVIEW, BMC MainView, MQATTACH, and ICC.
• Strong understanding of MQ clustering, distributed integration, and workload balancing concepts.
• Knowledge of workload management (WLM), high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
• Experience in system backup, recovery, performance analysis, and root-cause troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of z/OS operating environments and middleware architecture.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• IBM Certified System Administrator – WebSphere Application Server for z/OS certification.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise IBM Z environments with mission-critical workloads.
• Experience with middleware upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
• Exposure to CICS, Db2, IMS, and other IBM Z middleware technologies.
• Experience working in global delivery and 24x7 support environments.
