Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Logistics Specialist to support our Import & Export Operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring timely and compliant movement of biological reagents, laboratory equipment and other specialised goods from international suppliers, as well as managing the importation of critical materials for our biotechnology operations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supply chain support, inventory control, material handing, import and export licensing, product shipments and third-party warehousing.

The role also serves as a liaison between Sales, Customer Service and Operations to ensure customer requirements are met. The Logistics Specialist will support the development and maintenance of logistics plans, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with applicable international requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of international trade regulations, cold chain logistics and the challenges associated with importing and exporting materials for biotechnology research and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end import and export processes, including shipping documentation, customs clearance and coordination with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Ensure import and export activities comply with applicable international trade regulations, including HTS tariff classification, Incoterms and relevant biosafety requirements.
  • Follow established SOPs and work instructions, ensuring shipping documentation and operational records are accurate, complete and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve shipment discrepancies, customs delays, documentation errors and delivery issues, escalating risks where necessary to minimise operational disruption.
  • Coordinate the preparation and dispatch of temperature-sensitive and cryogenic shipments, ensuring packaging, documentation and transport arrangements meet applicable requirements.
  • Support the business with export requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement and Stores teams to ensure adequate stocks of logistics consumables are maintained.
  • Work with the Inventory team to retrieve and store vials in cryogenic storage for scientific use and shipment preparation, ensuring inventory movements are accurately recorded.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, international suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and third-party warehouses to ensure efficient and timely logistics operations.
  • Ensure inventory transactions, shipment tracking information and goods movements are accurately recorded in the relevant ERP and inventory management systems.
  • Monitor changes in international logistics requirements and adapt shipping arrangements to meet evolving customs, regulatory and customer-specific requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline import and export processes, reduce costs and improve delivery reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary education or a Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-levels, BTECs or equivalent), with an interest in developing a career in logistics, import and export operations, international business or a related field.
  • Previous experience in import and export logistics, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or life sciences sector, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures and trade compliance is desirable.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP or Microsoft Dynamics 365) and courier or logistics tracking systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in the international logistics landscape.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to resolving operational issues.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
