The Role
We're seeking experienced and passionate Audio Technicians and Lighting Technicians to join our Crown Live Theatre team.
Reporting to the Production & Technical Manager, these are hands-on leadership roles responsible for delivering exceptional technical experiences across Crown Melbourne's theatre and entertainment venues. Working alongside world-class productions and events, you'll lead casual technical crews, support day-to-day venue operations and ensure the highest standards of safety, technical delivery and operational excellence.
Whether your expertise is in professional live audio systems or theatrical lighting, you'll play a critical role in bringing unforgettable entertainment experiences to life.
Audio Technician
As an Audio Technician, you'll lead audio operations across theatre productions, rehearsals, performances and live events, ensuring exceptional sound quality and seamless audio delivery.
In this role, you will:
Lead audio operations across theatre productions, rehearsals, performances and live events.
Act as the primary point of contact for audio-related production requirements.
Deliver key technical show functions including FOH mixing, monitor engineering, RF coordination and system operation.
Oversee the setup, testing, maintenance and performance of professional audio systems.
Lead and develop casual crew and contractors, fostering a collaborative team environment.
Support rostering, operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure all activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest technical standards.
You'll bring:
Extensive experience in live audio engineering within theatre, concerts, events or similar environments.
Strong knowledge of digital audio consoles (Avid VENUE SL6/DiGiCo SD & Quantum), RF systems, PA systems and audio signal flow.
Advanced proficiency in QLab 5 for show control and playback
Experience leading technical teams, casual crew or contractors.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
The ability to interpret technical documentation and show specifications.
Lighting Technician
As a Lighting Technician, you'll lead lighting operations across theatre productions, rehearsals, performances and live events, ensuring creative and technically excellent lighting delivery.
In this role, you will:
Lead day-to-day lighting operations across Crown's theatre and entertainment venues.
Act as the primary point of contact for lighting-related matters.
Perform technical show duties including lighting console operation, follow spot operation and Duty Technician responsibilities.
Support show installations, lighting system setup, programming, focusing, testing and pack-down.
Lead and mentor casual lighting crew and contractors.
Maintain lighting equipment, infrastructure and technical documentation.
Support scheduling, rostering and operational planning activities.
Ensure all lighting operations comply with safety and venue requirements.
You'll bring:
Extensive experience in theatrical lighting, live entertainment or major events.
Strong knowledge of lighting control systems (Grand MA3, GrandMA2 and ETC IOS), programming and live production workflows.
Experience leading technical teams, casual crew or contractors.
Strong technical troubleshooting and organisational skills.
The ability to interpret lighting plots, technical drawings and show requirements.
Desirable Qualifications & Licences
Forklift Licence.
Test and Tag Qualification.
Rigging or Dogging Licence.
Current Manual Driver's Licence.
