The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Teaching and Leadership academic in Environmental Sciences to contribute to teaching, curriculum development, and governance within the School of Natural Sciences.

This role provides the opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, engage meaningfully with students, and contribute to the School’s teaching mission in environmental sciences. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of how Earth science principles lead to understand, manage, and solve environmental problems affecting the natural and built environment, more particularly in the key areas of geomorphology, earth surface processes, physical geography, earth surface observation, and/or earth surface responses to anthropogenic disturbance and hydro-climate extremes.

The applicant may also have experience in environmental management in rivers, wetlands, coastal or urban environments, and/or contaminated site assessment, with the capacity to teach in these areas at third-year and post-graduate levels. The successful applicant will also have expertise in curriculum design, teaching innovation, and course planning. They will also contribute to academic governance processes, including curriculum review, accreditation, and quality assurance, while supporting and mentoring academic teaching teams.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Some teaching experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate units or courses in Environmental Sciences, including tutoring, demonstrating, lecturing and/or assessment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy and curriculum and contribution to unit design, renewal, and enhancement of teaching practice.

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to course planning, academic governance, and quality assurance processes, including assessment design and moderation processes.

  • Support program-level curriculum reform, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated collaborative skills, including the ability to work effectively within teaching teams, engage with mentoring from senior colleagues, and contribute effectively to committees or working parties.

  • Evidence of disciplinary discovery and scholarship, and the capacity to contribute to supervision of postgraduate and HDR students (for example, supervision or co-supervision), appropriate to career stage.

About You

You are an experienced and collaborative academic with a strong record of leadership in teaching, curriculum design, and academic governance within Environmental Sciences. You bring demonstrated expertise in course planning, quality assurance, and program-level curriculum reform, along with the ability to mentor and support academic and sessional teaching staff. With excellent organisational, teamwork and communication skills, you contribute positively to School and Faculty committees, workload planning, and learning and teaching culture, while maintaining active engagement in disciplinary scholarship, HDR supervision, and external partnerships that enhance student learning and impact.

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate units or courses in Environmental Sciences.

  • Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy and curriculum and unit design, renewal, and teaching innovation.

  • Demonstrated experience in course planning, academic governance, and quality assurance processes, including assessment design and moderation.

  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and collaboration skills, including the ability to coordinate teaching teams, mentor academic and sessional staff, and contribute effectively to committees.

  • Evidence of disciplinary discovery and scholarship, and the capacity to supervise postgraduate and HDR students, appropriate to career stage.
