About the Role

We are seeking a Leader, Renovations & Facilities to join our Renovations & Facilities team. This role is the day-to-day operating leader for facilities across Success Academy's 59 New York City schools, turning department strategy into disciplined execution by setting priorities, directing vendors, resolving escalations, and keeping schools safe, compliant, and ready for instruction.

All site labor is contracted rather than employed, so this is a vendor governance role at its core. The department's service quality is a function of how well scopes are written, how service levels are enforced, and how performance is measured. This role owns all three.

This is a build role as much as an operating one. The compliance and inspection calendar, work-order coverage across the portfolio, and the condition baseline behind the capital plan all need to be established. This role is ideal for an operator who is energized by building the systems a growing network depends on, not only by running the ones that already exist.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operating rhythm across all 59 schools, including prioritization, work assignment, escalation management, and follow-through.
• Direct preventive and corrective maintenance so classrooms, common areas, critical systems, and essential services remain safe, reliable, and instruction-ready.
• Own the portfolio compliance calendar covering periodic inspection, testing, certification, and filing obligations for building systems and life-safety equipment, maintain evidence of completion, and drive corrective work to documented closure, accounting for differing obligations across owned, leased, district-provided, and co-located sites.
• Write and maintain the service specifications the department buys against, and direct vendors' day-to-day work, enforcing contract requirements and agreed service levels.
• Maintain vendor scorecards with measurable acceptance criteria set before work begins, and recommend escalation, corrective action, or replacement when performance fails.
• Direct the New York City facilities management team, set daily and weekly priorities, clarify expectations, and inspect results.
• Own a published after-hours escalation rotation and confirm coverage is defined, staffed, and known to school leaders at all times.
• Maintain the asset inventory and condition data supporting the multi-year capital plan, quantify deferred maintenance, and recommend annual capital priorities.
• Track work-order response, verified resolution, preventive-maintenance quality, and compliance status, identifying recurring failures and implementing scalable corrective action.
• Partner with school leaders and internal teams to resolve issues with clear ownership, realistic timelines, and timely communication.
• Approve routine work within established budgets and policies, track spending and forecasts, and surface financial risk early.

Skills / Qualifications

• Progressive leadership experience in multi-site facilities operations, with responsibility for a contracted rather than directly employed workforce.
• Demonstrated ownership of vendor performance, including writing specifications, setting measurable service levels, scorecarding, and pursuing corrective action or replacement.
• Strong technical fluency across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire and life safety, vertical transportation, and envelope, including the interfaces among building systems.
• Experience delivering service in occupied schools or similarly high-stakes environments where safety, continuity of operations, and limited work windows are critical.
• Working knowledge of applicable building, fire and life-safety, workplace-safety, and accessibility requirements, with the judgment to engage licensed professionals or authorities having jurisdiction when needed.
• Demonstrated ownership of a multi-site regulatory inspection and filing calendar, including evidence of completion and closure of open conditions.
• Experience extending or replacing a work-order and asset system and driving adoption, and building a compliance or condition-assessment program from an incomplete starting point.
• Ability to read and evaluate drawings, specifications, scopes, estimates, and change documentation and translate them into practical field decisions.
• Strong financial judgment, clear communication, calm decision-making during urgent conditions, and a record of taking ownership through verified resolution.
• Relevant credentials are valued. Demonstrated technical judgment and delivery results matter more than any specific degree or certification.

• This is a New York City-based, field-oriented role requiring regular presence across the schools and the Network Office.
• Prompt response is required when urgent conditions may affect safety, compliance, building integrity, or continuity of instruction, including occasional evening and weekend needs.
