Job Summary

Lead Medical Assistants/Limited Scope X-Ray Technicians (LSRT) are critical members of the healthcare team who perform clinical administrative duties that create an overall positive patient experience. Under the direct supervision orient, guide, and coach new medical assistants and LSRTs. The lead also assists providers, nurses, and other team members by greeting patients, verifying information, assisting in the exam room, prepping patients for a treatment, measuring vitals, performing lab tests, and maintaining patient's electronic health records (EHRs). This role is a key staff member in completion of patient tasks supporting quality outcomes and measures. In addition, under general supervision the Limited Scope Radiography Technologist operates specialized X-ray equipment to capture diagnostic images of specific body parts as directed by physician focusing on a defined scope of practice.

Essential Functions:

• Peer Resource and Training: Coordinate orientation and assist with precepting new Medical Assistants and LSRTs. Provide guidance to assigned MA’s related to the most effective work activities, strategic metrics, and improvement. Provide input to the annual evaluations of staff. Collaborate with ACE for teaching Annual Skills Competency and collaborate with RN supervisor for conducting monthly Mock MERs. Acts as Joint Commission Champion for clinic. (25%)
• Accurately and efficiently takes vital signs and basic historical patient data. Identifies abnormal patient findings. Communicates patient concerns or significant changes in patient’s health status to provider or RN. (10%)
• Assists provider in setting up for procedures including aseptic and sterile techniques; provides safe administration of medications and immunizations (oral, IM, subcutaneous, and/or intradermal); obtains EKGs, orders appropriate tests as directed by provider; and schedules specialty and follow-up appointments as directed by provider. (10%)
• Checks in patient by escorting patients from reception area to exam room and communicates information regarding any extended wait or delay in appointment time. Prepares patients for examinations, assists with examinations, cast or splint applications, minor procedures a variety of other medically related tasks within their scope of knowledge. (10%)
• Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to provide patient care. This may include, but is not limited to: • Referrals. • Assisting patients with appointments if necessary. • Faxing of pertinent medical information. • Maintains patient medical record and other information. Ensures patient confidentiality • Assists patients with the arrangement of tests and treatments prescribed by physician. • Assisting the provider or registered nurse in providing routine treatment instructions. • Test results & patient follow-up (10%)
• Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies. Prepares and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatment rooms. (10%)
• Maintains a safe environment by practicing sound safety and infection control practices according to agency policies and procedures. Helps to identify safety and infection control issues. (10%)
• Engages in performance appraisal on a routine basis by accepting and providing constructive feedback and integrates feedback into practice. Participates in competency reviews as required by department. Assumes accountability for achieving goals set jointly with the manager for the next evaluation period. Participates in the peer review process (10%)
• May perform phlebotomy and perform various laboratory procedures after competency verified. Maintains safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens. (5%)

Education:

• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Certificate from a clinical Medical Assistant school Required and
• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Completion of American Registry of Radiologic Technician (ARRT) recognized Limited Scope X-ray Operator training program Required and
• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program CDPHE Limited Scope Operators License Required

Work Experience:

• 4-6 years Medical Assistant direct patient care experience in an outpatient setting Required and
• 1-3 years Operating as a Limited Scope Operator Required

Licenses:

• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
• LSO-Limited Scope Operator - CDPHE - Colorado Department of Public Safety Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
• Knowledge of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures, and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
• Getting Information - Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  
  
• Documenting/Recording Information — Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
• Assisting and Caring for Others — Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
• Processing Information — Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
• Performing Administrative Activities — Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
