Our mission

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) offers a British solution to a global energy challenge, placing us at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity and positioning the UK as a future world leader in clean energy technology.

The team

The Power Station Integration team sits at the centre of our plant design, bringing together engineering disciplines to define how the full power station operates as one integrated system, ensuring performance, coherence and optimisation across an innovative and complex product. The team is responsible for defining power station level requirements, capabilities and attributes, and ensuring these are integrated and delivered across the design.

The role

In this context, we are looking for a Grid Code Lead to join our Power Station Integration team to support the delivery of our generic design and future deployment programmes.

As Grid Code Lead within RR SMR, you will have a strong understanding of the UK Grid Code and be responsible for ensuring Grid Code requirements are correctly interpreted and considered throughout the power station design. You will drive plant-level Grid Code compliance activities and support system teams in understanding their requirements, demonstrating compliance and resolving any compliance-related issues.

What we'll need you to do

We'll need you to:

  • Act as a technical expert for UK Grid Code requirements applicable to the RR SMR power station.

  • Interpret Grid Code obligations and ensure communication of their implications to engineering and programme teams.

  • Support multidisciplinary engineering teams in implementing Grid Code requirements within their designs.

  • Work with teams across the organisation to develop and the power station Grid Code requirements baseline and ensure these are captured and flowed down into system and equipment specifications.

  • Support development of compliance matrices, compliance strategies and assessment methodologies.

  • Review and challenge compliance evidence produced by engineering teams and suppliers.

  • Identify, manage and escalate Grid Code compliance risks, assumptions and issues.

  • Provide specialist input to design reviews, requirements reviews and regulatory submissions.

  • Engage with external organisations, regulators, network operators, customers and technical specialists as required.

  • Support international deployment opportunities by assessing and interpreting country-specific Grid Code requirements and connection obligations.

  • Promote best practice and develop organisational capability in relation to Grid Code compliance.

What you'll bring

As you can see, this is a technically focused role requiring strong engineering judgement, stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence complex design decisions across a multidisciplinary organisation. You'll also bring:

  • An engineering qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience within electrical engineering, power systems engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong experience interpreting and applying Grid Code requirements within power generation, energy infrastructure or transmission projects.

  • Experience developing Grid Code compliance strategies, compliance matrices and evidence-based compliance assessments.

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into practical engineering requirements.

  • Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and gain alignment across multiple functions.

  • Experience reviewing technical studies and design evidence to support compliance claims.

  • A structured and analytical approach to problem solving, risk management and decision making.

  • Experience in the application of systems engineering including requirement management would be beneficial.

  • Experience engaging with transmission system operators, network operators or regulatory bodies would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of European Grid Codes, ENTSO-E requirements, and experience supporting customers in Czechia, Sweden or other European countries would be advantageous
