What Does this Role Entail
Fenergo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Team Lead to lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and technical excellence. You will work closely with Product teams to deliver scalable, high-performance enterprise SaaS solutions that help fight financial crime through Transaction Monitoring. The ideal candidate will be a strong technical leader with experience in building innovative software products, driving technical excellence, and collaborating across Engineering and Product to align technical delivery with business objectives. As a Lead Engineer, you’ll have the engineers in your team reporting directly to you, and you’ll lead them in designing, building and running secure, scalable cloud services on AWS. You’ll stay hands-on with the code and help shape how we use AI across engineering.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, contribute to Fenergo's growth, and make a meaningful impact in the fight against financial crime.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of scalable, resilient, and secure SaaS solutions on AWS, and own key technical decisions and their trade-offs with the team and across teams.
- Translate business strategy into a clear technical roadmap. Work closely with Product to refine requirements, test assumptions and share accountability for outcomes.
- Deliver predictably and to a high standard: manage scope and priorities, remove blockers, and adapt plans as new information emerges.
- Lead, mentor, line-manage and grow a high-performing engineering team, give clear direction and regular feedback, and support each engineer's career development.
- Make sure the team meets the security, data-protection and resilience standards our regulated financial-services clients expect.
- Own production health: observability, reliability, incident response and continuous improvements.
- Champion engineering best practice in code quality, testing and CI/CD, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
- Drive effective, everyday use of AI-assisted development across the team (e.g. AI coding assistants, AI-assisted code review, test generation and agent-based workflows), with clear guardrails and measurable gains in productivity and quality.
- Build a culture of ownership, open technical debate and experimentation, where both successes and failures are shared and learned from. Model Fenergo's values in how you communicate and make decisions.
Requirements
Key expectations
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including [2–3+] years leading engineering teams that build SaaS products.
- Strong, hands-on Python development skills. Familiarity with a modern front-end framework (e.g. React) is a plus.
- Solid experience with AWS and its services, such as Lambda, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, SNS and SQS.
- A strong grasp of system design, event-driven architecture, and operational tradeoffs, with solid judgement on architecture, tooling and technical investment.
- Strong hands-on use of AI coding tools in daily development, with a clear approach to using them responsibly, including code review, security and data-handling standards.
- Experience building and running secure, multi-tenant systems, with an understanding of data protection (GDPR) and security and compliance frameworks (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills: you can set expectations, give constructive feedback and represent your team with Product and stakeholders across the business.
Nice to have
- Experience in FinTech, ideally AML or transaction monitoring.
- Experience building AI-powered product features on AWS (e.g. Amazon Bedrock), such as AI agents or LLM-based document processing, including evaluating and monitoring them in production.
