JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Development Manager supports the Development Manager in meeting client needs and achieving project profitability on new or enhanced generation projects. Working under the direction of a Development Manager, this role helps coordinate resource allocation, schedules, cost tracking, and technical adequacy to ensure projects are completed in a cost-effective and competitive manner. The Assistant Development Manager assists with the day-to-day execution of the business deal and helps ensure projects stay on time and within budgetary constraints, while building the skills and experience needed to progress toward a Development Manager role. In this role, an employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency regarding the essential functions of the job found below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support all aspects of the development process to help ensure timely, cost effective, and competitive results.
- Assist in coordinating key functions such as financial feasibility analysis, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations.
- Assist in establishing project objectives:
- Collaborate with the Development Manager, client, and management.
- Help develop the project proposal.
- Support the Atwell contractual relationship with the client:
- Assist in preparing documentation for contract negotiation and execution.
- Assist with invoicing and tracking of accounts receivable in accordance with the contract.
- Assist in establishing the project plan:
- Help determine timeframes, budgets, staffing, and project schedule.
- Support organization of the project team:
- Help assemble and coordinate Atwell team members, sub-contractors, vendors, etc.
- Assist in assigning responsibilities.
- Help identify and forecast project challenges.
- Assist in tracking agreements with approved sub-consultants and sub-contractors.
- Monitor project status:
- Collect, organize, and summarize project information and trends for the Development Manager.
- Act as a liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting, and interconnection, under the direction of the Development Manager.
- Assist in achieving financial objectives:
- Help maintain project budget, proformas and schedule.
- Track expenditures for review and approval.
- Help identify and analyze variances (e.g., scope creep).
- Support negotiation of changes in scope/contract.
- Assist in initiating corrective actions.
- Help prepare results for reporting to management.
- Support review of work product:
- Assist in analyzing design and confirming client requirements and performance standards are met.
- Foster relationships:
- Help keep clients informed on program status and anticipate their needs.
- Respond to client's concerns in a timely manner.
- Work toward becoming a trusted resource to the client.
- Support relationships with third parties and members of the community.
- Support development of future business:
- Help provide marketing support and presentations.
- Follow up on outstanding proposals.
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with current and future clients.
- Support project team performance:
- Communicate with team members and management.
- Assist team members with shortfalls to help overcome their challenges.
- Support project and client communications:
- Help compile project status updates for both internal and client use.
- Maintain web-based document management software typical for program clients such as Pro-Core, Flairsoft, Sharepoint, etc.
- Assist in maintaining project inputs in Vision:
- Opportunities and proposals.
- Contract amendments.
- Maintain project file:
- Collect and organize project materials.
- Support product quality and Atwell reputation:
- Follow Atwell Product Quality Manual and established standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge:
- Attend educational workshops.
- Review professional and market segment publications.
- Begin establishing personal networks.
- Participate in applicable professional societies and trade associations.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Public Policy, Environmental, Land Planning, or equivalent preferred.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
- Works under the direction and supervision of a Development Manager; limited authority to act independently.
- Works closely with the Development Manager, Team Leaders, and project team members.
- Frequently interacts with other office staff members.
- May assist in training and mentoring entry-level project team members.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Occasional travel required.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, printers, fax machines, etc.
- Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with other office staff and clients.
