Major Responsibilities:

• ​​Meets with laboratory leadership and/or course sponsor to understand needs for education courses or research sessions. Ensures that instrumentation and consumables are ordered for the lab. Advises sponsors and leadership about available materials and equipment.   

• Supervises the preparation of laboratory environment for professional education courses as outlined by course coordinator and laboratory leadership. Coordinates on site with course coordinator to ensure the laboratory environment best suits their needs. Communicates any requested changes to leadership and other teammates.  

• Conducts technical laboratory procedures and animal research anesthesia, surgery, and postoperative care to a high level. Assists and instructs other technicians with complex procedures.  

• Monitors care of research animals assists with surgical and technical procedures. Performs animal subject research following GLP practices.  

• Assists in organizing and coordinating the daily and weekly schedule of procedures to be performed.   

• Monitors and maintains laboratory analytical equipment and supplies and takes appropriate action. Assists in troubleshooting of equipment and software.   

• Takes experimental and clinical observations. Performs quality control on research data and facility records.  

• Updates laboratory and surgical procedures as needed. Assists in drafting, editing, and amending IACUC protocols.  

• Assists in instructing personnel in the proper use of laboratory equipment and procedures.  

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

• None

Education Required:

• ​​Bachelor's of Science Degree required or its equivalent in experience.  

Experience Required:

• ​​5 years of experience in veterinary medicine, research, medical education, or healthcare field required.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• ​​Ability to lead teams in a veterinary, research, or health care setting. Demonstrated ability to manage complex anesthetic and surgical cases. Ability to train and mentor junior technicians.  

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work in fast paced office/laboratory environment. Requires ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to move and lift heavy objects. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner.  

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

• ​​RVT/LVT, AALAS certification
