The School of Information Studies (SOIS), the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a Teaching Faculty position in Information Law and Ethics. This is a full-time, 9-month, renewable, instructional academic staff position (Teaching Faculty II) based on the main campus for both face-to-face and fully online methods of delivery at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. 

This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching and student success as well as a commitment to continuous growth and professional development to keep abreast of the legal and ethical issues in libraries, industry, information professions, and higher education trends affecting the curriculum.  

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a positive work environment in the school and college and to participate in school and college-wide initiatives and events. 

The desired start date for the position is January 8, 2027.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Facilitate classroom and online instruction for assigned courses, including assessment of student performance. 

• Serve as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations. 

• Develop instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction. 

College/School:

The School of Information Studies (SOIS) offers several educational programs: a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology (BSIST); a Masters of Science in Information Science and Technology (MSIST) degree in partnership with the Department of Computer Science; an ALA-accredited Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS); several coordinated graduate degree programs, including Health Informatics; transcript-designated concentrations within the MLIS Archival Studies, Public Libraries, Information Organization, and Information Technology; post-masters Certificates of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management and Digital Libraries; and a PhD in Information Studies. The School has a strong research faculty, more than 900 students, and state-of-the-art information technology.

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree, or higher, in library science, information science, law, or a closely related field from an accredited US institution or international equivalent by the start date of the appointment. 

• Knowledge and expertise in the legal and ethical issues in librarianship and/or information technology. 

• Evidence of university-level teaching experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Terminal degree (i.e. PhD or JD) in information science, library science, law, or a closely related discipline.  

• Knowledge and experience in legal and ethical issues in the public and/or private sectors. 

• Demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in face-to-face and online formats. 

• Professional experience in libraries, information organizations, legal practice related to information/IP, or technology policy. 

Compensation: The target hiring range is $75,000-$85,000 on a 9-month, academic basis. Final salary will be contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process.
