À propos de ce poste Hollywood News and Awards Reporter, Culture chez The New York Times

The New York Times · Sur site · New York, NY

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

The Culture Desk is seeking a nimble journalist to report on the movie awards season, and report out news stories and investigations about the consumer-facing side of Hollywood throughout the year.

The position encompasses writing the Projectionist awards season column and reporting live from the red carpet during the Oscars and other awards shows, as well as appearing in videos. But awards season is only part of the job. You will be expected to cover the news and controversies of pop culture throughout the year, deliver investigations and enterprise stories, and write features about the latest releases and how they impact audiences and society. Your work should drive conversations about Hollywood and entertainment both before and after a premiere.

We are looking for someone who is well-sourced in Hollywood, has deep expertise about movie awards and understands both how Hollywood works and how its output can generate larger conversations and controversies. Ideally, the reporter has the ability to cover fast-breaking news of interest to culturally curious readers.

Night and weekend work will be a necessary part of this coverage. The reporter will work in coordination with the Times business reporters who cover Hollywood.

This reporter should be able to brainstorm unique angles and anticipate what moments are worthy of our attention and to find creative ways to engage readers with coverage that satisfies their hunger for news about their favorite actors, directors, series and franchises. The priority for this role is to cover and write news, and would also include deeper profiles. Your stories may take the form of traditional articles as well as explainers, visual- and audio-rich stories, lists, and other story formats. Sophisticated reporting, interviewing and writing skills are a must, along with the ability to contextualize a subject within a larger cultural framework. You will be writing regularly on deadline, so the ability to digest complex information quickly and turn around stories quickly will be essential. This role requires precision and attention to detail.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of reporting on Hollywood, including breaking news and exclusives, and is collegial, prolific and enthusiastic about covering news. This person should be a collaborator with an affinity for teamwork and a willingness to share expertise and resources.

You will report to our Movies & Pop Culture Editor.

This is an in-office position, based in either New York City or Los Angeles, and includes regular attendance in the office each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • Cover the news and controversies of the movie awards season and pop culture, deliver investigations and enterprise stories, and write features about movies and how they impact audiences and society

  • Collaborate with visual editors on new story formats and multimedia, including reporter video and audio
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of reporting experience in journalism, including breaking news and exclusives
  • Richly sourced in the entertainment industry in Hollywood across movies, television and pop culture
  • Superb communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a large team of editors and reporters
  • Creativity and a desire to experiment with innovative story formats
  • The ability to contextualize news in a broader context for our audiences, and follow with multiple next-day storylines
  • A self-starting go-getter, you must be able to independently source news and exclusives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A lively, accessible writing style
  • An aptitude and enthusiasm for video storytelling, such as reporting on camera
  • A passion for the mission and values of The Times
  • A willingness to write in a variety of story formats
