We have an opportunity for a Head of Insurer Relations to join the team of staff in the Commercial Insurance department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

• Your primary responsibility is to manage and cultivate relationships with various health insurance companies.

• Negotiate contracts: You will be involved in negotiating contracts and agreements with health insurance companies, including fee schedules, reimbursement rates, and terms of service. This involves understanding the financial aspects of healthcare services and working towards mutually beneficial arrangements.

• Maintaining relationships: You would establish and maintain strong working relationships with insurance company representatives, including account managers and executives. Regular communication is essential to address concerns, resolve disputes, and ensure smooth coordination between the hospital and the insurers.

• Collaboration with internal stakeholders: You would collaborate with various departments within the hospital, such as finance, administration, and clinical services. This collaboration ensures effective communication and alignment regarding insurance-related matters, such as billing processes, coverage limitations, and service delivery.

• Market analysis and strategy: You may be involved in analysing market trends, competitors' offerings, and insurance industry developments. This analysis helps in formulating strategies to maximise insurance coverage for the hospital and adapt to changes in the healthcare landscape.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Strong communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with insurance company representatives, hospital staff, and patients. You should be able to articulate complex information clearly and negotiate contracts and agreements.

• Negotiation and persuasion: The ability to negotiate effectively and persuade others is crucial in securing favourable contracts and reimbursement rates from insurance companies. You should be able to advocate for the hospital's interests while maintaining positive relationships with insurers.

• Financial acumen: A solid understanding of healthcare economics, reimbursement models, and financial management is important. You should be comfortable analysing financial data, assessing reimbursement rates, and identifying opportunities to optimize revenue.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills: You should possess strong analytical skills to evaluate insurance policies, claims data, and reimbursement trends. This allows you to identify areas for improvement, resolve claim denials, and develop strategies to mitigate financial risks.

• Relationship management: Building and maintaining relationships with insurance company representatives is critical. You should have the ability to establish rapport, understand the needs of different stakeholders, and navigate complex dynamics to foster productive partnerships.

• Knowledge of healthcare regulations and policies: Familiarity with healthcare regulations, insurance guidelines, and industry best practices is important. You should stay updated on changes in policies and reimbursement methodologies to ensure compliance and optimize revenue cycle management.

• Strategic thinking: The ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends is valuable. You should be able to assess the impact of changes in the healthcare landscape, develop long-term strategies, and adapt to evolving insurance market dynamics.
