Overview

As part of the National GIS Service, you will contribute to remote sensing and site investigation activities for the ALTO project. Working with GIS, engineering, design, and environmental teams, you will define analysis and acceptance methods, interpret LiDAR data, point clouds, and drone imagery, assess site conditions, and support technical decision-making.

Your role

• Define and document analysis methods, acceptance criteria, and quality control procedures applicable to LiDAR data, point clouds, drone imagery, and other remote sensing products.
• Interpret LiDAR data and imagery to assess terrain, drainage, vegetation, physical constraints, and other relevant site conditions.
• Perform terrain analyses using digital elevation models, slopes, profiles, contours, and derived products.
• Assess data coverage, resolution, accuracy, classification, spatial referencing, and fitness for project needs.
• Compare remote sensing data with survey, design, and other available data sources to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Develop technical recommendations and clearly communicate findings, limitations, and risks to design, environmental, and engineering teams.
• Produce maps, 2D and 3D analyses, and geospatial deliverables to support site investigations and project decisions.
• Coordinate technical activities with field specialists, processing teams, and data suppliers, and verify that deliverables meet established requirements.
• Document methodologies, assumptions, controls, results, and decisions in a clear, structured, and verifiable manner.

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in geomatics, geography, remote sensing, earth sciences, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, including at least two years working with LiDAR data, point clouds, drone imagery, terrain analysis, or other remote sensing data.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting remote sensing data and assessing site conditions for infrastructure, engineering, or environmental projects.
• Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online and the ability to prepare 3D, raster, or imagery services are considered assets.
• Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, including 3D tools, LAS datasets, rasters, mosaics, elevation models, and spatial analysis functions.
• Good understanding of coordinate systems, spatial accuracy, resolution, point classification, and geospatial data quality control principles.
• Ability to define methods and acceptance criteria, resolve discrepancies between sources, and provide technical recommendations.
• Knowledge of specialized point-cloud processing or photogrammetry software, as well as FME, Python, or ModelBuilder, is considered an asset.
• Ability to collaborate with field and multidisciplinary teams and explain technical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent analytical, spatial interpretation, and complex problem-solving skills.
• Rigour, professional judgment, and attention to detail when evaluating data quality and fitness for use.
• Independence, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Ability to collaborate with GIS, field, design, environmental, and engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills to present findings, explain data limitations, and provide clear recommendations.
• Proficiency in French or English; bilingualism in French and English is a significant asset due to collaboration with teams in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.*

* This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as it involves collaboration with members of the Canadian or global leadership team located outside Québec.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $64 000 - $90 000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
