Travel Requirement: Regular weekly overnight stays throughout the UK/IRL and occasional international travel for training. 

As a core member of a cross-functional team of experts, the Technical Specialist delivers world-class service by executing highly specialised installations across the Roche Diagnostics portfolio within our customer network. This includes the installation, relocation, and de-installation of high-volume, critical analysers for blood science, molecular, and tissue diagnostics solutions. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OPERATIONAL DUTIES 

● Installation & Technical Support: Perform high-quality installations, relocations, and de-installations of high-volume critical instruments (e.g., cPro, c 8800, c 8000, c 6800) within allocated timelines. Provide 1st/2nd level support for troubleshooting, Data Manager, Cobas Link, and firewalls using SOPs. 

● Project Management & Space Efficiency: Use initiative to keep project deliverables on track. Optimize customer laboratory space during installations and ensure seamless go-live execution. 

● Safety, Compliance & Security: Strictly adhere to laboratory policies, Health & Safety guidelines (HS-01-04), and local information security standards regarding Patient Identifiable Data (PID). 

● Quality & Equipment Maintenance: Maintain calibrated tools and trunk stock in accordance with service requirements. Complete accurate documentation and case updates in REXIS (with specific focus on the PIPO project). 

● Client Relationship & Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, representing Roche values in every interaction. Act as an on-site installation lead while effectively communicating customer queries across the wider business.

● Continuous Improvement: Track and contribute to team KPIs. Share best practices, capture procedures from installation experts, and stay updated via GRIPS and company training modules. 

● Perform IQ/OQ instrument checks: Confidently load, calibrate and verify reagents following installation, prior to handing over to the Applications team. 

Qualifications & Essential Requirements 

● Education: Qualified Engineer (Electrical Engineering / Medical Technology) or a relevant Biomedical Science qualification (e.g., ONC/HND, City & Guilds, Diploma, or Degree). 

● Licensing & Travel: Valid UK/EU (or equivalent) driving license and a valid passport for overseas training.

● Experience: Proven experience working in a medical/technical environment as a technician or medical technical assistant. Demonstrated expertise in electrical, electronic, or mechanical engineering with a history of working autonomously. 

Desirable Experience & Technical Competencies 

● Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with medical analytical systems, quality assurance, CRM tools, and the diagnostics industry in a multicultural work environment. 

● Technical Skills: Fluent with PCs, mobile workforce apps, smartphone applications, and IT security fundamentals; basic understanding of applications and LIMS. 

● Problem Solving: Logical, process-driven mindset with strong attention to detail; able to separate root causes from symptoms and exercise sound judgment under ambiguous conditions.
