Job Expectations

An exciting opportunity has presented itself to join the NBN Adelaide Metro Networks team as a Field Engineer.

The Field Services (FS) Team within Chief Operations Business Unit, provides Field Workforce capabilities across all technologies for, Service Activation, Service Assurance, Network Assurance, Network Maintenance, Customer Complaints linked with Network faults and Quality Inspection.

A bit about your role

Based in Adelaide, your new role as a Field Engineer will focus on representing NBN’s Field Services team in all field-based assurance and build activities specifically related to the core network. You will be responsible for supporting Ethernet, DWDM, switching, HFC, network integration, augmentation, and upgrades, as well as conducting field audits and ensuring connect quality and Delivery Partner performance across services.

This role demands high-level field support, which will include frequent intra & interstate travel (often at short notice), scheduled after-hours work, and participation in an on-call roster to respond to urgent escalations.

Role expectations

This role involves field management and network assurance across NBN’s passive and active infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial) DWDM, Ethernet and routing. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing assurance activities and executing network element upgrades on the active network. The role demands on-site technical support, resolution of escalations, and a deep understanding of Core network, HFC architecture, RF fundamentals and operations. Familiarity with FTTP technologies and a robust grasp of HFC systems would be highly beneficial to ensure effective network performance and upgrade delivery.

A bit about you

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in maintaining and restoring network infrastructure, with hands-on experience in field-based assurance and fault resolution. Expertise in FTTx technologies such as FTTP is advantageous, but an understanding of network assurance protocols across technologies like Ethernet, DWDM, GPON and HFC architecture and operations is essential particularly building/commissioning outside plant network equipment i.e.: Nodes, Amps and passive devices.

You’ll be a natural problem solver with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and escalation management. The role requires a quick learner who can adapt to evolving technologies and field conditions. Flexibility, resilience under pressure, and the ability to manage competing priorities are key traits. You’ll also be a highly organised team player who brings a constructive mindset and a proactive approach to challenges and capable of thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced field environment.
