What you Will Do:

  • Plan and develop model predictive control and parameter estimation algorithms for military and commercial engine programs.
  • Develop engine, actuation, and fuel system dynamic models and apply these models for development of functional requirements for control law algorithms, fuel system and actuation dynamics.
  • Develop model-based sensor and actuator fault detection, isolation, and accommodation (FDIA) algorithms.
  • Collaborate with internal customers/stakeholders to identify opportunities for control law product and process improvements.
  • Create and improve process and standards for development, validation, and verification of engine control laws, fuel system control laws, and FDIA algorithms.
  • Provide technical review and oversight of control and parameter estimation algorithm design and analysis.
  • For emerging algorithm issues, lead root cause determination and corrective action throughout entire product life cycle from initial concept phases, through engine testing and in-service operation.
  • Develop and update control law training materials and provide mentoring and training for team  members.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of engineering experience or 5 years with an advanced degree

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • M.S. degree
    Expertise developing physics-based models of turbo-machinery components by applying principles and methods from thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer and integrating component models into a numerically robust system model.
  • Expertise developing physics-based models of fuel systems and fueldraulic actuation systems.
  • Expertise developing dynamic models using the Modelica modeling language.
  • Expertise designing and analyzing estimation algorithms by applying methods and tools from multi-input multi-output dynamical linear system and estimation theory.
  • Expertise applying statistical models and methods for modeling uncertainty propagation in dynamical systems.
  • Demonstrated mastery of one or more of the following technical areas: multivariable feedback control, model predictive control, numerical optimization, state estimation, stability analysis of multivariable and hybrid systems, real-time propulsion system and fuel system dynamic modeling, simulation, and dynamic analysis.
  • Solid track record of achieving results.
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills.

Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI)

Controls & Diagnostics Systems (CDS)

CDS develops complex, cyber-resilient control systems and software for commercial and military engines including power and thermal management Systems and auxiliary power units. CDS also develops advanced diagnostic & health management systems to monitor our products, forecast events and help facilitate MRO operations. With growing emphasis on sustainability, CDS is on the forefront of system development for hybrid and electric propulsion.

What is my role type?

In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We’ve introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
