New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That’s our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers—literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission—your opportunity—is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you’re driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.

OSPO develops safety policies, system procedures and instructions to ensure JPL adheres to NASA, Federal and State regulations as well as internal requirements. The objective of OSPO is to direct the operations of the Laboratory’s safety program to identify and eliminate safety hazards related to employees and facilities.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering professional, with emphasis on Electrical Power Systems, to join our team!

The tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Perform electrical design reviews and construction inspections of JPL facilities.

  • Evaluate submitted specifications, calculations, and power system analysis studies; and issue Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) plan approval for facilities projects.

  • Develop and maintain electrical safety compliance documentation, conduct hazard analyses, review and approve contractor Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP), and serve as a technical resource for JPL organizations and subcontractors on electrical safety requirements.

  • Interface with JPL Facilities, site personnel, external organizations, and NASA electrical working groups; provide authoritative recommendations on electrical safety for protection of personnel, equipment, and facilities; and support NASA and Caltech audits including corrective action responses.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of electrical power systems design, operation, and maintenance in commercial and/or industrial environments.

  • Working knowledge of California Electrical Code (CEC) and National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical design drawings (i.e. construction plans, custom electrical equipment), and specifications documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering in the State of California, or active pursuit thereof.

  • Experience with AHJ plan review and inspection processes for facilities electrical installations.

  • Proficiency interpreting short-circuit, device coordination, and arc flash analyses.
