Job Description Summary

In this role, you will be a vital member of the APAC Field Operations team, primarily focusing on offering support and technical leadership across Project and Operational Services within Australia including engagement with our key support contractors from a technical perspective.

You will fill a key position as part of the High Voltage Operations team, deliver comprehensive business support, guidance, and leadership to the Projects and Services group, with a dedicated focus on addressing all electrical safety and operational concerns during the installation, testing, and maintenance of Wind Turbine Generators and offer assistance to existing operational Wind Farms for High Voltage Apparatus as well as annual Substation servicing and maintenance works throughout Australia.

This position will represent the business in national electrical contracting endeavors and ensure compliance with the electrical contracting regulations of each State. It will involve frequent travel to project and operational sites across the ANZ region (at least 2 weeks in a month) with flexibility to work remotely when site attendance is not required.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and ongoing review of compliance plan with electrical contracting requirements in each State and territory nationally.
• Support the monitoring of electrical licenses are current for GE Renewable Energy and all GE engaged Contractors in each State and Territory that GE Renewable Energy Australia Pty Ltd operates in are current and relevant state legislative requirements are met.
• Have the ability to assume the responsibilities of the High Voltage Operator for ANZ
• Support the Senior Operations Electrical Specialist / HVO in Overseeing and management of the High Voltage safety procedures and operations across the services and project sites.
• Assist with the development, coordination and implantation of competency programs for HV Switching inclusive of VOC refreshers.
• Support the development and implementation of electrical safety procedures and operational switching procedures at each wind farm site.
• Assist in the development and maintain electrical training program including LOTO support.
• Support regional EHS team to develop and maintain audit program for all safety, training, operational and maintenance of electrical equipment carried out by employees, direct contractors, and subcontractors.
• Support the review of ALL Electrical contractor’s licenses are current & for the State they intend to work in.
• Support implementation of “Isolation Schedules” “Lock Boxes” “HV Permitting” “HV Operations.”
• Institute an electrical testing program on all electrical infrastructure in consultation with the Engineering team.
• Provide support and advice to operations teams in operations and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.
• Review scopes of work for electrical maintenance contractors including auditing of performance.
• Implement and review testing and commissioning programs that have been designed by engineering.
• Provide technical advice, audits and compliance, commissioning and installation of HV products and electrical systems.
• Perform regular site electrical audits for compliance with High Voltage and Electrical safety procedures.
• Act as technical nominee or HVO’D for a projects and operational sites when required.

• Supporting and assist in the management of electrical contractors for substation outage works, High Voltage Equipment exchange, testing and verification.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Australian electrical License – A grade or state equivalent

• Meet pre-requisites to be named as Technical Nominee/Electrical Supervisor on relevant state licenses.

• Minimum 5 years experienced HV operator within date training

• HV and LV operations experience

• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics

• Permit recipient and work control experience

• Procedural development experience

• Experience with network operating authorities and their procedures with possible training requirements

• Knowledge of installation and commissioning best practices

• Willing to train mentor others as applicable and manage a small team

• Knowledge of contracting and nominee requirements with option to hold position

• Substation commissioning, operations and maintenance background desirable

• Relevant experience in generation and transmission power industry

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with diverse teams and stakeholders.

• Safety-focused mindset with a comprehensive understanding of industry safety standards and protocols.

• Willingness and ability to travel regularly and work on-site at various project and operational locations, with flexibility to work remotely when site attendance is not required.

• Must have intermediate level in computer skills (MS OFFICE).

• Strong verbal and written communication skills 

• Valid Australian Drivers license

Desired Characteristics

• Previous GE WTG experience desirable.

As GE Vernova is a global organization, working across different time zones, and monitoring, reading and responding to contact outside normal working hours can be expected.
