The Opportunity

Our USGO Heartland-Badger South team is seeking a multi-skilled, team-oriented Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressor station and meter station control systems, measurement equipment, and related facilities.

This individual must be a self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision and possess strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills. This position is overtime eligible, and extended work hours may occasionally be required without advance notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

What You'll Do

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor stations, meter stations, communication systems, and other pipeline-related facilities.
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas and electrically driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Perform control and monitoring maintenance activities on centrifugal and reciprocating compressors.
  • Maintain power systems, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures using hand and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to identify and correct failures.
  • Connect wiring to circuit breakers, transformers, and other electrical components.
  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards, defects, or necessary repairs while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Test electrical systems and circuit continuity using devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Install, start up, maintain, and repair measurement and regulation equipment, including:
    • Meters
    • Recording gauges
    • Flow computers
    • LCEM units
    • Transmitters
    • Relief valves
    • Regulators
    • Valve actuators
    • Pneumatic and digital controllers
    • Filtration devices
    • Odorizers
    • Gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
  • Perform diagnostic testing, calibration, accuracy testing, and equipment replacement using tools such as Hart Communicators and Fluke meters.
  • Prepare and maintain DOT-auditable records for inspections, calibrations, odorant testing, equipment changes, relief valve testing, and gas quality analysis.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, and operating procedures, and serve as a technical resource for facility personnel.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to schedule and route gas flow during maintenance activities and emergency repairs to ensure uninterrupted customer service.
  • Perform pipeline locating activities through the Wisconsin One Call Center and conduct valve maintenance.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, and maintain records within SAP.
  • Carry a company-issued cell phone and participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry.
  • Thorough understanding of Stop Work Authority (SWA) and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with controls, measurement systems, and instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, gas and fire detection systems, pressure-regulating equipment, and valve operators.
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree with coursework in engine maintenance, electricity, electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Bristol control systems.
  • Thorough understanding of test equipment used to maintain control systems.
  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators.
  • Experience using gas measurement testing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Medium-voltage electrical experience involving switchgear, variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, and other equipment associated with electrically driven compressor units.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

  • Maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and work extended hours or weeks during emergency response situations.
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Work in varying weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and confined or restricted workspaces.

Driving a motor vehicle is an essential function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will conduct a motor vehicle record review for candidates applying to positions where driving is an essential job function.
