About Ceribell
Ceribell is a medical technology company focused on transforming the diagnosis and management of patients with serious neurological conditions. The Ceribell System is a novel, point-of-care electroencephalography (“EEG”) platform specifically designed to address the unmet needs of patients in the acute care setting, and is being used in hundreds of community hospitals, large academic facilities and major IDN's across the country. Our entire team is driven by a shared commitment to transforming the landscape of critical care through our rapid seizure detection technology, come join the movement!
Position Overview:
As Director/Manager of Research and Data at Ceribell, you will lead the effort to find, acquire, and secure the clinical and EEG datasets that power the development of new indications for the Ceribell EEG platform. This role is part of Ceribell's Data Science team, with a dotted line to the Clinical team, and sits at the intersection of R&D, Clinical, and our academic and hospital partners. You will build relationships with researchers and academic centers, evaluate research proposals and support research collaborations, and drive EMR integrations with partner hospitals so that Data Science has the high-quality, clinically well-characterized data it needs to build and validate new algorithms. The Ceribell EEG platform opens the door to additional clinical indications where faster access to EEG-based insight could improve patient care, and this is an opportunity to help shape that expansion.
What you'll do:
- Work with Data Science team to translate the needs of new indications into specific data requirements and a prioritized data acquisition plan.
- Identify, evaluate, and build relationships with researchers, physician advisors, and academic centers who hold or can collect the data we need. Negotiate data access, licensing, and purchase arrangements.
- Evaluate research proposals from external investigators for scientific merit, clinical relevance, and alignment with our indication priorities. Serve as the scientific point of contact for research collaborations from proposal through data return, and help shape study designs so the resulting data is usable for algorithm development.
- Lead EMR integration efforts with partner hospitals to obtain linked clinical context and outcomes data. Work with hospital IT, clinical informatics, and clinical champions to scope data feeds, mappings, and workflows.
- Assess the quality and fit of incoming datasets (label quality, cohort definition, population diversity, annotation methodology) in partnership with data scientists before and after acquisition.
- Partner with Legal, Regulatory, and Privacy on data use agreements, IRB requirements, de-identification, and HIPAA compliance.
- Work closely with the Clinical team to support early-stage clinical studies and ensure data collection aligns with study protocols.
- Maintain a data asset inventory and pipeline tracker: what we have, what we need, and what is in negotiation.
- Manage multiple simultaneous data partnerships and projects across indications.
- Represent Ceribell at scientific conferences and in academic networks.
What We're Looking For:
- Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP, or equivalent) in a clinical or research-oriented field, such as neurology, neuroscience, critical care, neurophysiology, or biomedical science.
- At least 5 years of experience in clinical research, healthcare, or medical technology, with a track record of building and managing research collaborations with academic institutions and investigators.
- Strong clinical and research judgment, including the ability to evaluate study design, research proposals, and clinical data quality.
- Working knowledge of data science and machine learning fundamentals sufficient to judge dataset suitability.
- Working knowledge of basic statistics, including sample size and power, confidence intervals, sensitivity and specificity, and common sources of bias and confounding, sufficient to evaluate study designs and dataset adequacy.
- Experience with EMR data and integrations, or clinical informatics projects.
- Familiarity with clinical research regulations and data governance (IRB, HIPAA, de-identification, data use agreements).
- Experience with EEG or other biosignal data is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical data needs to clinicians and clinical context to data scientists.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, and a passion for improving patient outcomes through data.
