This leadership role is responsible for driving excellence in rural medical education, clinical teaching and workforce development across South Australia. Working collaboratively with academic staff, health services, government and industry stakeholders, you will contribute to the clinical years in the MD program, strengthen rural training pathways, support the next generation of medical professionals, and contribute to improved health workforce outcomes in regional and remote communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic leadership for the South Australian Regional Training Hub and the SA Rural Medical Program, ensuring high-quality clinical education, teaching excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Building and maintaining strong partnerships with health services, professional bodies and government stakeholders to develop and strengthen rural medical training pathways and workforce initiatives.

  • Leading and supporting academic staff while delivering innovative, student-centred learning experiences, curriculum development and clinical teaching across the medical program.

  • Mentoring and supporting medical students and junior doctors, promoting rural and remote career pathways through career planning, professional development and placement opportunities.

This role is well suited to a local clinician with teaching or academic experience who is looking to further develop their career in higher education, bringing their clinical expertise into a meaningful teaching and academic environment.

Bringing extensive clinical experience and a strong track record of educational leadership, you thrive in collaborative environments and are committed to developing future medical professionals. You are skilled at building meaningful partnerships, leading high-performing teams, and driving innovation in teaching, curriculum development and workforce initiatives that strengthen health outcomes for regional communities.

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive clinical experience and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), supported by a doctorate or equivalent professional standing.

  • A proven record of excellence in tertiary and clinical education, including leadership in the design, delivery and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning practices.

  • Success leading and mentoring academic teams, managing teaching programs, and contributing to curriculum development, quality assurance and accreditation activities.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, health services, industry partners and community stakeholders.
