About the Role:
The Director of Training leads Ivy Tech's Environmental Management Institute (EMI), providing expert instruction while advancing the Institute's strategic goals and industry partnerships. This role will provide instruction in a variety of disciplines including asbestos remediation, lead abatement, and hazardous waste operations (HAZWOPER). This individual will help position EMI for continued growth by ensuring regulatory compliance, expanding industry partnerships, and maintaining leadership in environmental health and safety training.

• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, to communicate effectively with students and stakeholders.
• Grant & Regulatory Compliance: Experience managing grant reporting, regulatory requirements, and collaborative initiatives within multi-partner organizations.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify challenges, develop practical solutions, and proactively mitigate operational and compliance risks.

Key Responsibilities:

The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

• Develop and deliver comprehensive training courses in environmental health and safety, including but not limited to asbestos and lead abatement, OSHA 10 & 30 (Construction and General Industry), HAZWOPER, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Tailor lesson plans and training programs to meet the specific needs of diverse learners, ensuring all course objectives are met and regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
• Conduct both classroom and hands-on training, utilizing technology-enhanced methods.
• Manage EMI’s role in the Midwest Consortium (MWC) by participating in regular meetings, providing expert input on how to execute goals, and supporting federal grant compliance.
• Supervise full-time EMI faculty and directly oversee their professional development to ensure they are certified in their fields and are quality instructors.
• Monitor the training capacity of EMI to provide guidance to Career Link on capacity needs and supporting direct recruitment of adjunct faculty.
• Coordinate with state agencies and regulatory partners to support the sector’s workforce training initiatives throughout Indiana.
• Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, industry associations, labor organizations, and government agencies.
• Manage and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment, addressing learner differences and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Oversee and guide guest instructors, ensuring adherence to course material, and providing support as needed.
• Stay updated on changes in local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and state-specific requirements including OSHA, EPA, Indiana Administrative Code, and Illinois Administrative Code requirements.
• Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in continuing education and professional development programs to stay current with training best practices and regulatory changes.

Education & Experience:

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in asbestos inspection, lead-based paint abatement, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Three years or more of experience leading or delivering environmental health and safety training programs.
• Experience in adult education and delivering training to diverse audiences.
• Regulatory knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental hazards, occupational health, and safety standards (Indiana and Illinois preferred).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
