Job Title: VP/ Director of Research

What You’ll Do:

Research defines the culture of AB Equities and is the cornerstone of our collaborative investment decision-making process.  Our analysts engage in creative, rigorous and long-term strategic research that is the basis for all portfolio decisions.  We seek to own good businesses at attractive valuations and apply a long-term approach as owners of businesses.  We serve clients globally, with research coverage across developed and emerging markets, and our analysts are based in offices in New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, Sydney and Melbourne.

The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Research and Investment (50%-60% Time allocation)

• Collect in-depth insights from global fundamental research team, potentially grow into PM (start from cloned strategies)

• Engage in team-based problem solving, information sharing, and research discussions.

• Lead local research efforts for onshore research projects.

• Meet with research providers, data vendors, industry leaders, etc.

Business Development (25% - 35% time-allocation)

• Be the ambassador of AB Equity research, meet with gatekeepers, institutional investors, and medias.

• Collaborate with production of marketing and client communication materials.

• Collaborate with Product Development, Sales team and other counterparties on new product design.

Regulatory Duty (~10% time-allocation)

• Collaborate with onshore teams to develop and enhance in-house process to meet onshore regulatory requirement.

People & Culture (~5% time-allocation)

• Galvanize AB’s Purpose driven culture for Shanghai colleagues - Promote an AB’s diversity and inclusion culture

• Be a role model and convey omni-channels communication culture between Shanghai and other AB offices

• Uphold AB’s fiduciary obligations, adhere to our Code of Conduct and uphold AB’s reputation as a representative with clients and in the broader industry.

What We’re Looking For:

• An MBA or comparable degree, and/or 8+ years of business experience in investment management.

• Preferably generalist research experience through equities research.

• Experience with systematic portfolio construction is preferred

• Deep knowledge of the Chinese capital market and the competitive landscape of the FMC industry (knowledgeable on global capital markets would be a plus)

• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently but also as a member of a team in a dynamic, informal and fast-changing environment. We encourage vigorous and open debate among members of our team in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

• A passion for ongoing learning and development.

• Good Client communication skill and willingness to travel for client meetings and roadshows

• Languages: Fluent in Mandarin, business level English proficiency
