MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:  

1.Must possess a current license as required by the state board where services will be provided or be license eligible. Licensure must be completed within 100 days of hire: 
WV: Pharmacist license through the West Virginia State Board of Pharmacy             
PA: Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy 
MD: Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy 
OH: Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy 

NOTE:

* While waiting on licensure, employee may not practice pharmacy under West Virginia law and may not be allowed within the licensed pharmacy area without direct and guided supervision of a licensed pharmacist

* Employee may not function as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or perform any function of a practicing pharmacist.

* Incumbents will refrain from engaging in any responsibilities that necessitate a pharmacist's license until they have obtained full licensure.

  
EXPERIENCE:  
1.Completion of one of the following combinations of experience: 
2.Completion of a health-system pharmacy administration residency program AND 4 years of administrative experience OR; 
3.Completion of a non-health-system pharmacy administration residency program AND 5 years of administrative experience OR; 
4.Seven years inpatient and/or health-system pharmacy administrative experience. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 

1. Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration, or Master in Public Health. 
2. Board Certification in a clinical pharmacy specialty. 


EXPERIENCE:
1. Foundation knowledge in retail pharmacy and specific knowledge of 340B.  

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:
1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.  Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Promotes, through a close working relationship with the pharmacy managers, a climate to promote the safe, effective, rational and cost effective use of medications at WVUH and clinics/practices.

2. Directs comprehensive drug distribution systems.

3. Directs clinical pharmacy services.

4. Serves as secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

5. Serves as the primary contact in terms of interdepartmental communication.  Includes membership Leadership Forum.

6. Develops goals and plans for implementation for future directions of the Department.

7. Promotes the professional development of staff members.

8. Responsible for the development of the annual Performance Improvement Plan of the department.

9. Encourages the use of Total Quality Management techniques as a means of improving the products of the Department.

10. Serves as the primary line of communication between the administration of the WVU School of Pharmacy and the Department.

11. Serves as the program director and preceptor for Pharmacy Practice Residents.

12. Provides didactic instruction in the School of Pharmacy.

13. Utilizes key financial and productivity tools to manage and allocate resources of the department.

14. Identifies, and works to rectify, budget variances.

15. Promotes programs which stress cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality.

16. Participates in the department’s administrative on-call system.

17. Develops, supervises, and coordinates all the activities of the pharmacy department and pharmacy services.
