The Finance Director holds final site-level authority over the hospital's financial strategy, risk models, and capital investment trade-offs, serving as the primary finance leader accountable for executing multi-year strategic financial planning, forecasting, and performance across the hospital. This role reports to the Executive Director of Finance Hospital and operates with a high degree of autonomy, negotiating directly with clinical and operational executive chairs to realign department budgets, enforce cost-containment, and resolve complex financial disagreements. While the job carries no direct supervisory reports, it holds sole accountability for finance's strategic presence and credibility at the hospital level, executing performance frameworks and turnaround playbooks that are scaled across BMCHS community hospitals, leading complex cross-functional financial integration efforts, and serving as the connective link between hospital leadership and BMCHS system finance functions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

• Monitors and analyzes long-range financial performance against strategic plan, identifying systemic variances and performance trends, and translating findings into strategic financial recommendations for hospital and system leadership to guide operating decisions.
• Leads complex, cross-functional financial integration initiatives, such as post-acquisition service line restructures and service line margin transformations, holding final analysis and recommendation authority at the site level on major capital and business investment decisions for hospital and department leadership.
• Executes performance frameworks, productivity models, and turnaround playbooks in partnership with BMCHS workforce management, productivity, and decision guidance functions, standardizing approaches to labor resource management and cost discipline designed to scale across BMCHS community hospitals.
• Directs the hospital's multi-year strategic financial and capital planning process, holding site-level authority over financial risk models and capital investment trade-offs within established system frameworks; sets site-specific budget policy direction for department heads; partners with the BMCHS budget department to align hospital-level capital strategy with system-wide requirements; and directs senior leadership review of departmental and MD-level discharge volume projections to inform multi-year forecasts.
• Directs the monthly close process in partnership with corporate accounting and system finance analytics, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and translating monthly results into strategic implications for hospital leadership decision-making.
• Negotiates directly with clinical and operational executive chairs to realign department budgets, resolve complex financial disagreements, and enforce cost-containment, converting variance findings into binding financial action plans with department heads within health system parameters.
• Establishes site-specific standards for financial reporting and labor productivity tools used across the hospital, guiding the frameworks department heads use to interpret month-end reports and document variance explanations for management reporting.
• Serves as the hospital's senior financial voice on executive-level committees and cross-functional forums, shaping site-level strategic recommendations and preparing supporting materials for system-wide decision-making.

• Bachelor’s Degree (major in Business, Finance or Accounting major preferred) with 7 to 9 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, finance, and business administration, with working knowledge of reimbursement, managed care, and budgeting, sufficient to understand accounting and reporting systems, interpret and analyze financial reports and data, and plan, coordinate, and prepare for audits.
• Proficiency in developing operating and capital budgets and forecasts, including revenue, expense, and volume projections.
• Working knowledge of financial systems and system solutions, applied to drive financial process improvement and reporting efficiency.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, applied to evaluate complex financial issues, draw valid conclusions, and support timely, sound decision-making.
• Strategic thinking skills, applied to inform performance improvement initiatives and long-term financial planning.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills, including intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, to prepare and present financial materials clearly to diverse stakeholders and effectively partner with staff across a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point
• Leadership skill in developing, interpreting, coordinating, and communicating finance policy related to GAAP, cost and grant accounting, budgeting, financial system structure, internal controls, and compliance.

Compensation Range:

$113,500.00- $164,500.00
